About the role

Lead a team of developers to build and refine game features through every step of the development process, from initial design all the way to live game support, handling technical decisions, and prioritization.

You will assist in onboarding, scope definition, planning, work estimation, performance tracking, and mentoring, helping us build a strong and healthy team, working closely with product managers, producers, game designers, artists, and other technical groups.

What you'll achieve

  • Responsible and accountable for team efficiency, communication, quality, and predictability by setting up, maintaining, and optimizing best practices and continuously leveling up the team and organization.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Director to translate the vision into guidelines for tech outputs, with established quality control mechanisms.
  • Develop milestone content and realistic production schedules in collaboration with team leads and management.
  • Identify and proactively tackle technical debt through cost/benefit analysis to eliminate debt and suggest timelines for how to prioritize it.
  • Support rapid iteration and create long-lasting, highly successful products.
  • Ensure project scope is delivered as expected, resolving conflicts between schedule, capacity, and design goals.
  • Create and review technical design documents for game features.
  • You will spend little time writing code, but you are expected to still engage in small technical deliverables, such as bug fixes and simple features, to gain code knowledge to handle incidents and unexpected problems by debugging and solving/identifying root causes.

What you'll need to be successful

  • Previous experience in game development, prototyping to live operations, and managing development/tech teams.
  • Fully comfortable with agile management practices and a proven project manager who has delivered large projects successfully, as well as familiarity with software like Agile, Kanban, Clickup, Asana, Jira.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to effectively structure and track complex information and manage full development cycles from prototyping to live ops.
  • An independent manager, proactive, self-directed, and organized. Capable of building productive relationships with a wide range of personality types and styles.
  • Strong communication skills across a variety of disciplines, including product, engineering, stakeholders, and QA.
  • Hands-on experience with Unity Engine.
  • Problem-solving skills, including the ability to motivate others to find solutions in dynamic environments and anticipate issues before they arise.
  • Passion for pursuing the highest quality of work and a bias for action, particularly in the free-to-play game space.
  • Be mindful of how design decisions impact existing features, performance, and user experience.
