Job Description

As the Head of CG Assets at WildBrain, you will lead the technical, strategic, and creative direction of the studio's pipeline, software, and infrastructure. You will oversee modeling, surfacing, groom, and look development across the studio, ensuring alignment with artistic goals and optimized workflows. Responsibilities include collaborating with various departments, managing asset production, contributing to technology tools, and ensuring creative vision within the scope. You'll also work with the budgeting team, represent the studio in meetings, and participate in talent initiatives.
Must have:
  • Strong knowledge and experience with CG pipelines
  • Understanding of USD workflows
  • Knowledge of naming conventions, versioning, publishing, and asset variation management
  • Advance knowledge of the entire CG pipeline
  • Experience in Python, Substance Suite, Gaffer, Houdini and Unreal Engine
  • Knowledge in Arnold and RenderMan

Overview

WildBrain is seeking a dynamic Head of CG Assets to lead the technical, strategic, and creative direction of our studio’s pipeline, software, and infrastructure. This role is crucial for driving innovation and efficiency while ensuring the delivery of best in class animated projects.

As the Head of CG Assets, you will be responsible for overseeing Modeling, Surfacing, Groom and Look Development studio-wide with a particular focus on our Premium pipeline development.  Your expertise will be instrumental in advancing the technical capabilities of our team, while maintaining alignment with artistic goals. You’ll work closely with all CG departments to ensure seamless collaboration, optimized workflows, and the successful execution of complex creative visions.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You'll Do:

  • Oversee all elements of asset production including modeling, texturing, grooms, surfacing and look development, both hard surface and organic for all CG shows 
  • Work alongside, Layout, Animation, CFX, Crowds, Rigging Lighting and FX ensuring assets meet the needs of all neighboring departments 
  • Responsible for studio wide modeling and surfacing workflow and implementation of process 
  • Manage and provide support, documentation, mentorship and training to modeling supervisors 
  • Assess and provide input on development artwork to ensure creative integrity and success inside the studio 
  • Work collaboratively with Art direction to ensure design choices are viable in production allowing for maximum creativity and technical implementation 
  • Provide support and direction for multiple DCC’s, including but not limited to  Maya, Z-brush, Substance Painter or Mari, Houdini,  Gaffer, Katana or Solaris.
  • Oversee and participate in the advancement of our Production Technology tools addressing needs of premium episodic and feature quality productions
  • Collaborate with Production and Technology to successfully launch new productions
  • Closely work with the budgeting team during the initial discussions of asset bid times, and scope to make sure that we are setting ourselves up for success
  • Continually push the creative boundaries ensuring the best possible outcome is being realized within scope 
  • Partner with artist Management and Production when casting artists for new and existing projects 
  • Align with Senior leadership and represent the studio in all relevant meetings with Partners/Clients
  • Participate in Talent initiatives where needed (eg. Performance reviews/hiring talent) 

What You'll Bring:

  • Strong working knowledge and experience with CG pipelines 
  • An in depth understanding of USD workflows 
  • A thorough understanding of naming conventions, versioning, publishing and asset variation management 
  • Advance knowledge of the entire CG pipeline including but not limited to: modeling, rigging, look development, layout, animation, cfx & grooms, crowds, lighting, FX, and compositing 
  • A passion for maintaining a solid asset library within and across projects 
  • An understanding of ingesting Alembic and USD based assets from other vendors as well as packaging of client-bound assets
  • A thorough understanding of 2.5D projection assets and matte painting workflows 
  • A keen eye for complexity reduction and scalability 
  • Experience working in a mulit-shot and sequence-centric pipeline is an asset 
  • Excellent leadership skills with kind, clear, and confident communication style  
  • Knowledge in Arnold and RenderMan 
  • Knowledge and experience with Python, Substance Suite,  Gaffer (or Katana or Solaris), Houdini and Unreal Engine. 
  • Experience streamlining workflows by utilizing Shotgrid (Flow) 
  • A desire to push the creative boundaries and willingness to adopt and implement new technologies to aid in studio growth

Pay Range: $3175 - $3550 per week.

Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity
