Your Mission

As our Japanese Language Specialist, you’ll:

  • Own the quality and consistency of all Japanese content for Call of Duty - gameplay, in-game UI, multiplayer, live events, and marketing assets.
  • Be a driver of transformation as we reshape our future through AI and automation. You’ll be hands-on in implementing new post-editing, translation, and review workflows, helping us raise the bar for speed and quality.
  • Partner closely with Project Management, Localisation QA, and other Language Specialists to ensure Japanese content is always authentic, player-focused, and on-brand.
  • Be a go-to expert for terminology, style, and cultural adaptation, helping the team and our external vendors solve problems and deliver results.
  • Bring a solution mindset, not just a translation skillset - flag blockers, propose workflow or tech improvements, and play an active part in feedback, review, and change.

Player Profile

Responsibilities

  • Localise Call of Duty content (game, in-game text, audio scripts, live events, and marketing) from English to Japanese, using both traditional translation and post-editing workflows.
  • Take an active role in the rollout and improvement of AI-powered, automated localisation pipelines, including post-editing machine translation outputs.
  • Review and approve assets before publication.
  • Collaborate with Project Management, QA, and other Language Specialists to ensure clarity of expectations and alignment on quality.
  • Provide guidance to external Japanese vendors and internal testers; answer style and translation queries.
  • Proactively track, evaluate, and help fix linguistic bugs and quality issues.
  • Maintain and evolve translation assets (glossary, termbase, translation memories and style guides).
  • Take part in team reviews, feedback loops, and continuous improvement cycles while experimenting with new tools and workflows.

Experience

  • Previous experience as a Japanese Translator/Language Specialist, ideally in the games industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in post-editing and reviewing MT output is highly desirable.
  • Experience using memoQ or other CAT tools.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and AI-driven workflows is a plus.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Native-level Japanese, business-level English.
  • Strong creative writing and localisation adaptation skills.
  • Familiarity with shooter games, multiplayer, and live content is a distinct advantage.
  • Problem-solving mindset and a willingness to learn, adapt, and experiment.
  • Understanding of cultural sensitivities and the gaming market in Japan.
  • Enthusiasm for AI, automation, and being part of a team driving positive change.

What Success Looks Like

  • You deliver authentic, high-quality Japanese content: player-first and always on-brand.
  • You diagnose bottlenecks, flag blockers, and work with the team to raise standards and improve processes.
  • You embrace and help drive the transformation toward AI-powered localisation, always looking for smarter, faster ways to work.
  • You’re a trusted voice in the team, supporting colleagues, sharing ideas, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
