Level Designer for sci-fi action adventure game, must have experience in Unreal Engine and level design fundamentals.

We are looking for a talented and creative Level Designer to help us build compelling gameplay spaces for our upcoming sci-fi action adventure title. 

In this role you will be responsible for creating white-boxed level environments, as well as designing and implementing combat encounters, situations and puzzles. Although self-sufficiency is important in this position, you will still be working closely with other members of the team, so feedback and collaboration will also be important aspects of your day-to-day work.

This is a full-time position based in Malmö Sweden.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create levels from concept to final in-game result
  • Design, prototype, iterate and polish levels, including enemy encounters and other gameplay elements
  • Collaborate with the environment art team, making sure gameplay spaces are mechanically and aesthetically memorable as well as functional from a technical standpoint
  • Make sure that levels are balanced & consistent throughout the experience
  • Iterate on levels based on internal & external testing feedback
  • Proactively suggesting improvements to gameplay and level layouts

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working as a Level Designer in the games industry. Preferably you should have experience of several game development cycles.
  • Ability to design compelling 3D game environments
  • Strong prototyping ability
  • Knowledge and understanding of level design fundamentals and general game design principles
  • Understanding of gameplay and event scripting
  • Professional experience working with Unreal Engine 4/5
  • Great understanding of blueprints in Unreal Engine 4/5
  • Team player with a professional attitude and work ethic
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills (English)

Will be a plus:

  • Experience working on top-down games and/or action adventure titles
  • Experience with 3D packages such as Maya, Modo etc.
  • A strong eye for composition and an understanding of what makes a good level from an artistic point of view
  • You are passionate about games and enjoy playing action adventure- and Metroidvania type of games
  • You are a fan of dark sci-fi such as Alien, Blade Runner and the Thing, and futuristic anime such as Ghost in the Shell, Akira and Blame
