Description

About MPG:

At The Multiplayer Group (MPG), we specialise in creating the highest standard of mind-blowing multiplayer experiences for our partners, through Co-Dev and Full-Dev projects.

Our people-first culture fosters a welcoming environment and a diverse team of talented people from across the globe.

We have a flexible approach to working that makes room for real life.

With our team spread far and wide, we're always looking for ways to bring our people together, whether that's online or in person.

Our giving back philosophy is centred around our local communities, education, and sustainability. We’re proud to say we’ve been Climate Positive since 2020!

Your mission:

As our Senior Level Designer, you will help develop and deliver high-quality gameplay and level assemblies for our AAA projects across our high-profile co-development partners. You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing level designs and iterating them into high-quality environments for our partner’s games.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing and creating game levels - projects could be at any stage of the game’s gestation, from concept to prototype, through mid-development, to soft launch and live updates
  • Creating levels that support the overall vision for a game, taking cues from game vision, narrative, character interactions, introduction of mechanics and pacing requirements
  • Creating rapid, malleable blockout geometry in Unreal or Unity, sourcing plenty of gameplay feedback to lock it down
  • Implementing available mechanics, triggering actions, setting up basic camera work and NPC/combat encounters for the general progression of a level
  • Receiving, digesting and solving high-level feedback into work that the team can action and improve the game
  • Working with production and the team directly to ensure the outcome of your work is to a release-quality standard
  • Working with other disciplines to communicate your Level’s; vision, setting and layout. Generating clear asset or feature lists to support their implementation
  • Insight playtest feedback throughout the development process, communicating pivots to the team
  • Driving the team to deliver exceptional quality gameplay
  • Embracing and exemplify the MPG design methodology; which campaigns quality and starts with a deep understanding of our partner’s design process
  • Communicating frequently with both internally and externally on progress, scope, quality and risk
  • Discussing and explaining the rationale behind your analyses and recommendations
  • Implementing the levels you design and work collaboratively with the level artist to ensure that the level is playable and that the graphic elements support each other
  • Fixing level design bugs entered into the database by our QA team
  • Actively participating in design specific discussions and design reviews

Requirements

What we need from you:

  • You’re highly experienced in all areas of level design and have many examples of having taken levels from conception to release
  • Previous experience working in a Senior Level Designer position and contributed to at least one shipped title
  • A passion for making and playing a broad range of games
  • Experience of prototyping game mechanics using UE Blueprints
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages
  • A good knowledge of level editing tools and scripting languages
  • The ability and desire to work in creative and collaborative environments
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in writing and explaining high quality and thorough level design documentation demonstrable with portfolio materials

What would help:

  • Knowledge of Open-World/Terrain generation rulesets and scripting
  • Knowledge of Proc-Gen level or terrain generation for Rougelike or Generative titles
