Unknown Worlds is seeking a talented Level Designer to contribute to their next game in the Subnautica universe. This remote position requires collaboration with design and art teams to create immersive environments and compelling gameplay. Responsibilities include building environments in Unreal Engine, collaborating on content creation, identifying needed assets, regularly sharing progress, iterating on feedback, and providing feedback to other team members. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of experience in level design, proficiency in Unreal Engine (landscape creation, prop placement, foliage painting), a strong understanding of level design principles, excellent aesthetic composition skills, and strong communication skills. Experience with open-world environments, UE5, Blueprint, and basic 3D asset creation is preferred.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Unknown Worlds is seeking a talented level designer to work on our next game in the Subnautica Universe. Our ideal candidate will be skilled at level creation in Unreal Engine and have a passion for storytelling through world building. This is a remote position on a globally distributed team. Candidates must be willing to work US East Coast or European hours.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the design and art team to imagine and build immersive environments
  • Collaborate with the design team to create compelling gameplay content
  • Collaborate with the art team to identify needed assets for world-building
  • Share progress regularly.  Iterate and incorporate feedback on an ongoing basis
  • Provide feedback to other level design team members and the world team as a whole

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of level design experience in the games industry
  • Proficiency in creating environments in Unreal, including landscape creation, prop placement and foliage painting
  • Deep understanding of level design principles and best practices
  • Aesthetic composition skills capable of creating evocative environments
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, highly organized and self managing individuals comfortable working in a remote environment

Preferences

  • Experience creating Open World environments
  • Knowledge of UE5 & Blueprint creation
  • Basic 3D asset creation knowledge
