The role requires experience building consumer applications, leading teams, and defining technical roadmaps. The ideal candidate is passionate about creating exceptional user experiences and thrives in a fast-paced environment. This position requires in-office presence 3 days a week in Mountain View, CA.

Microsoft AI is looking for a talented mobile lead engineer to help build the next wave of capabilities of our personalized AI assistant, Copilot. The Native Engineering team is responsible for leading and building the core experience of Copilot on iOS and Android, while collaborating with our Product Management, Design and AI Research teams.

Responsibilities

  • Care deeply about building outstanding consumer-grade mobile applications. 
  • Build consumer grade applications for iOS and/or Android. 
  • Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code.  
  • Work collaboratively with our Designers, Product Managers, and AI Researchers to take ambiguous projects and mold them into amazing experiences. 
  • Find a path to get things done despite roadblocks to get your work into the hands of users quickly and iteratively.  
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, design-driven, product development cycle. 
  • User Feedback Integration: Ensure the product continually evolves based on user feedback and market trends, driving features that improve user satisfaction and retention. 
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers focused on consumer mobile-related projects. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and high performance. 
  • Roadmap Development: Own the technical roadmap for the mobile engineering team, balancing short-term delivery with long-term technical investments that enable scaling and efficiency.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications (RQs/MQs) 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 6 years technical engineering experience developing mobile applications for iOS or Android platforms with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Swift, Kotlin, Objective-C, or Java
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of mobile application architecture, design patterns, and UI/UX principles. 
  • 3 years of leading high-performing mobile engineering teams. 
  • Experience in consumer engineering or a growth-oriented role. 
 
Additional or Preferred Qualifications (PQs) 
  • Contributions to open-source projects.  
  • Experience building iOS or Android applications from scratch. 
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers. 
  • Passion for learning new technologies and staying up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in mobile development and AI. 
  • Proven ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment, fostering knowledge sharing and growth within the team. 

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
