Job Description

This Power Engineer role at Google involves designing and building hardware, software, and networking technologies for Google's services. You'll contribute to custom silicon solutions powering direct-to-consumer products, working on power converter design, board bring-up, and debugging. Responsibilities include innovating on-board power conversion specifications, analyzing performance trade-offs, leading projects involving new technologies, partnering with industry leaders, ensuring successful product roll-out, and providing technical leadership in troubleshooting complex power issues. The role requires expertise in power system design, modeling and simulation, and power electronics fundamentals. You'll be working on point-of-load applications for ASICs, FPGAs, and processors within Google's large-scale computing infrastructure.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a power converter design including DC/DC converter design and board bring up and debugging technical environment, or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or in a related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in technical leadership.
  • Experience with analyzing and organizing data.
  • Experience in power system design.
  • Knowledge of power converter modeling and simulation.
  • Knowledge of power electronics fundamentals and various power conversion designs for data center power delivery.

In this role, you will design and build the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. You design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into Google's cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users. You will manage projects in multiple areas with your expertise. You also monitor the performance of vendors working on projects and evaluate new technologies.

As a Power Engineer in Technical Infrastructure, you will play a key role in the development of one of the world's fastest growing computing infrastructures. You will work as part of a team to deliver innovative power solutions for point of load application. Your objective will be to design, analyze, optimize and implement board, chip level power topologies and control for large scale point of load application including Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and processors.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Innovate and design on board power conversion specifications and solutions. Analyze performance, cost, reliability and availability trade-offs.
  • Lead projects that involve new technologies or new uses of multiple existing technologies.
  • Partner with power industry leaders to lead evaluation and adoption of the most compelling cutting edge technologies.
  • Engage cross-functionally to ensure successful roll-out, testing and complete validation.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction while troubleshooting complex system level power issues.
