The Principal Software Engineering Manager will lead and develop a team, design technology for accelerating Copilot and Microsoft 365 adoption, and partner with various teams to deliver optimized experiences. Responsibilities include fostering an inclusive environment, ensuring high-quality software delivery, and collaborating across the Microsoft ecosystem to improve Copilot and Microsoft 365 adoption and monetization. The role requires strong technical leadership, experience architecting large-scale apps, and a customer-focused approach.

Overview

The Experience plus Devices (E+D) Growth team is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager (EM) to help accelerate the adoption of Copilot and Microsoft 365. Our team is uniquely positioned at the strategic epicenter of E+D for revolutionizing the productivity business by delivering embedded experiences across the Microsoft 365 suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) that drive the growth of our company’s cutting-edge generative AI solutions across the commercial and consumer spectrum. Our team tackles technical challenges across a diverse tech stack, with the solutions we deliver having a direct impact on the bottom line of the business. This EM role requires passion for coaching and developing SWE talent, strategic and creative thinking, technical leadership in architecting cross-suite solutions, and a customer-focused, data-informed mindset.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years experience in architecting and implementing large-scale apps, experiences, or services that span multiple systems. 
  • 2+ years people management OR team lead experience.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • An experimentation mindset that is both customer- and data-informed. 

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $135,800 - CAD $253,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a diverse team of Individual Contributor (IC) SWEs at varying levels and from a variety of backgrounds. 
  • Design and deliver the technology for accelerating Copilot and Microsoft 365 adoption and monetization across Office, Windows, and the broader Microsoft ecosystem. 
  • Partner closely with PM, DS, design, and peer EMs to deliver optimized experiences that lead to increased loyalty to Copilot and Microsoft 365. 
  • Partner closely with teams across the company to deliver software solutions in a One Microsoft fashion. 
  • Continually invest in best practices for building first-class software that is customer-driven, scalable, sustainable, and of high quality, and that is delivered with operational rigor and with measurable results. 
  • Foster an inclusive environment that welcomes diverse perspectives, and that in turn leverages that diversity to create more inclusive products for our customers. 
  • Model a growth mindset by learning from others and sharing your learnings with others.
