The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing psychiatric assessments and ongoing treatment to all clients. Responsibilities include providing psychiatric assessments, ongoing medication monitoring, and discharge assessments, coordinating medical/nursing services, participating in team conferences, attending in-service functions, and assisting in emergency situations. Maintaining client confidentiality, ethical conduct, and communication with the Medical Director/Director of Nursing are also key aspects of the role.
Must have:
  • Graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Must have an active ANCC board certification.
  • Licensed as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse.

  • Compensation Range: $70 per hour  - $90 per hour 
  • Compensation will be dependent upon geographic region, education, and experience 
  • Must have 3 years of PMHNP experience
  • This is a part time position working at our Huntington Beach, CA outpatient psychiatric services facility.

Job Description

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for proving psychiatric assessments and ongoing treatment to all clients. Maintains open communication lines with Executive Director, Medical Director, Director of Nursing, facility staff, attending clinicians, clients and families. Liaisons with community agencies, vendors, and payor of health services.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Medical Director and or acting as the Medical Director, provides psychiatric assessments, ongoing medication monitoring and discharge assessments of all clients.
    • If acting as Medical Director, responsibilities include meeting state regulatory, licensing and accreditation requirements
  • Assists in the coordination and integration of medical/nursing services with other client care services to ensure continuity of care for each client.
  • Participating in team conferences with the multidisciplinary team and the client care committee (if the facility chooses to establish a client care committee).
  • Attends and participates in all “in-service” functions.
  • Assists with emergency situations and make immediate referrals.
  • Maintains the Confidential nature of all clients and facility activities.
  • Maintains required Training & Continuing Education.
  • Maintains Standards of Ethical Conduct.
  • Complies with all Policies and Procedures.
  • Effectively communicates concerns about client health to the Medical Director/Director of Nursing and follows up as necessary.
  • Facilitates medication education for new clients and for all other clients starting new medications.
  • Meets with therapists to provide information about client psychiatric/medical problems.
  • Assists the treatment team in incorporating medical issues into treatment planning.
  • Participate in regular department meetings and staff meetings.
  • Maintains effective communication between outside medical services and the facility.
  • Keeps and shares records and equipment.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement, Utilization Review, Fire & Disaster Committees, and others as requested.
  • Maintains up-to-date training in CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, Fire Safety, and other areas mandated by organizational policies.
  • Provides prompt on-call telephone coverage when needed/scheduled
  • Will be responsive and available to nursing for any medical, psychiatric or detox orders for both emergent cases and admissions during on-call hours.
  • Will work with nursing leadership team to ensure protocols are in place to proactively address issues that can be handled without on-call contacts.

Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited/approved Nurse Practitioner program
  • Must have an active ANCC board certification
  • Licensed as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse, maintains current licensure per state requirements; must have an active State of California DEA license.
  • Maintains current CPR.
