Job Details

Description

We’re looking for a Quest Designer to join our award winning team in Middlesbrough (UK), home to the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline and countryside.

As a Quest Designer at Double Eleven, you’ll be working alongside the quest design team on Fallout 76, one of the largest and most well-known AAA IP’s. You’ll be working alongside other team disciplines to realise high quality quest deliverables, creating memorable player experience in an ongoing live service environment

This role would suit a candidate who has a passion for quest design and has previous experience working in a quest, game or level design capacity. The ideal candidate will show excellent communication and active listening skills, as well as demonstrate a player focused design thinking with the ability to interpret and deliver on an agreed vision.

As a global gaming company, we've enabled millions to conquer Minecraft Dungeons, battle in Rust Console Edition and, of course, create new adventures for Vault Dwellers in Fallout 76.

Recently, we collaborated with Rockstar Games to bring Red Dead Redemption to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 as well as partnered with Obsidian Entertainment on Grounded: Fully Yoked Edition for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and 5.

Double Eleven is a place where our people come first. Our 400-person team proudly represents over 30 nationalities.

We strive to avoid crunch, we offer flexible working hours to allow you to truly enjoy work/life balance whilst making great games and any overtime is always planned, optional and paid.

We can support relocation for people already living in the UK to our Middlesbrough office.

Interested? We kindly ask all applicants to submit a portfolio to support their application. We’re afraid applications without an accompanying portfolio will not be considered and on this occasion, we’re unable to sponsor a visa for this role.

Our interview process for this position is likely to consist of the following two stages:

Stage one: A remote discipline specific skills assessment followed by a remote discussion about your completed assessment

Stage two: On-site competency-based interview

What you’ll be doing

  • Helping to express the story of the game through excellent exploration, gameplay and activities
  • Collaborate closely with the Lead Quest Designer and other leadership to write and implement quest content for the game
  • Brainstorm and collaborate with the Lead Quest Designer, project leads and quest team to concept and plan the themes for each update
  • Collaborate with other teams regarding quest implementation scope, quality, efficiency and workflow
  • Implement and oversee quests as part of content updates to the game
  • Work with production and the Lead Quest Designer to inform the quest schedule, ensuring your work can be delivered on time
  • Mentor junior team members through creating and iterating designs and implementing best practices
  • Collaborate with other teams to create a cohesive game experience
  • Promote, contribute and participate in our culture of inclusion and diversity

What we’re looking for

  • Some experience of quest, level or outdoor world repeatable content design
  • An understanding of narrative systems and structures
  • Experience of working with at least one established game toolset
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • A passion for researching various IPs and franchises
  • Ability to consider feedback from multiple conflicting viewpoints and provide design guidelines for teammates to make the best overall decision
  • Experience with implementation best practices and a willingness to get involved with the game engine
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal formats
  • Presenting and pitching skills

About The Company

Double Eleven is one of the top three independent games publishers and developers headquartered in the UK. Trusted with some of the world’s biggest IPs, currently collaborating on Minecraft Dungeons with Mojang Studios, Prison Architect with Paradox Interactive, and Fallout 76 with Bethesda Game Studios, as well as working on other unannounced projects.

As a developer, our relationships with other developers are paramount as we understand the hard work required in the industry. ‘Port +ing’ became our bread and butter and is what pays the bills and allows us to take really good care of our team and their families. That’s why Double Eleven was started, to be able to make great games and still spend time with our families, challenging some of the conventional wisdom of how a development studio and publisher should run.
