Job Details

Project description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Release Train Manager (RTM) to manage and coordinate the delivery of complex, large-scale programs within an Agile framework, primarily using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). As the RTM, you will be responsible for ensuring that Agile Release Trains (ARTs) are effectively organized and aligned with business goals. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to coordinate multiple Agile teams, manage dependencies, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality products.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Agile methodologies, experience managing large-scale software development programs, and a deep understanding of the SAFe framework.

Responsibilities

Manage Agile Release Train (ART): Serve as the leader of the Agile Release Train (ART), coordinating the efforts of multiple Agile teams to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.

Facilitate Program Increment (PI) Planning: Organize and lead PI planning sessions, ensuring alignment between business goals and technical delivery. Guide the teams in defining the program backlog, objectives, and deliverables.

Track Program Execution: Continuously monitor the progress of features and capabilities, remove roadblocks, and ensure that the ART is meeting deadlines and delivering on commitments.

Coordinate Cross-Team Dependencies: Collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and other key stakeholders to manage interdependencies across teams, resolving bottlenecks and risks that may impact delivery.

Ensure Alignment with Business Objectives: Work with business stakeholders to align the ART's work with organizational priorities and goals. Ensure that features and user stories are aligned with business needs and that business value is being delivered.

Facilitate Key ART Events: Lead ART-level ceremonies, including PI planning, System Demos, Scrum of Scrums, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and regular synchronization meetings to keep teams on track.

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks that could impede progress, ensuring that all issues are surfaced, documented, and addressed in a timely manner.

Foster Continuous Improvement: Encourage a culture of continuous improvement within the ART by facilitating retrospectives and promoting innovation and collaboration among teams.

Report Program Progress: Provide clear and concise reports on ART progress to leadership and stakeholders, tracking metrics such as velocity, quality, and feature delivery.

Coach and Mentor: Act as a mentor and coach to Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and other key stakeholders, ensuring adherence to Agile principles and the SAFe framework.

Drive Agile Maturity: Lead efforts to increase the Agile maturity of the teams within the ART, identifying opportunities for process improvements and coaching teams on best practices.

PI Objectives and Roadmap: Ensure that PI objectives are set and met, with alignment to long-term roadmaps and strategies. Work with stakeholders to adjust as needed throughout the program lifecycle.

Skills

Must have

Experience: 12+ years of experience in an Agile environment, with at least 4+ years as a Release Train Engineer (RTE) or Release Train Manager (RTM), or in a similar leadership role within a scaled Agile environment.

Scaled Agile Knowledge: Deep understanding of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) and its principles. Experience facilitating PI planning sessions and managing Agile Release Trains.

Agile Methodologies: Strong knowledge of Agile practices (Scrum, Kanban) and an ability to coach teams in adopting Agile practices and principles.

Leadership and Facilitation: Proven ability to lead, facilitate, and manage large, cross-functional teams and projects. Experience facilitating PI planning, Scrum of Scrums, and other Agile ceremonies.

Risk and Issue Management: Strong experience identifying, managing, and resolving risks and dependencies across multiple teams.

Communication Skills: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to different audiences.

Project Management Tools: Proficiency with Agile project management tools such as Jira, Rally, VersionOne, or similar.

Data-Driven Approach: Ability to track and analyze metrics to drive improvements in Agile performance (e.g., velocity, cycle time, defect rates).
