Rivian is seeking a Sr. Manager - Advanced Planning to lead strategic make/buy studies for components and assemblies for their vehicle programs. This role involves detailed cost analysis, including material, labor, overhead, equipment, and tooling, comparing them to purchased options. The candidate will identify innovative technologies and suppliers, assess internal capabilities, and create studies in partnership with Rivian stakeholders. The position requires building a unique understanding of the supply base, market conditions, and technology roadmaps, employing a data-driven mentality for decision-making. Responsibilities include supporting manufacturing engineering partners, driving cost and commercial value decisions, managing supplier quotes, and collaborating with product development teams. The role also involves communicating with senior leadership on strategic decisions and creating accepted should-cost models.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's/Advanced degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, or Business.
  • 10-12 years of commodity processing and pricing experience.
  • Managed similar studies in Automotive, Electronics, or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing technology and suppliers.
  • Analytical skills and technical literacy.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask.

  • Experience working and managing projects globally.
  • Flexibility to travel.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages.

Role Summary

  • Lead Strategic Make/Buy studies for all components and assemblies under consideration for Rivian’s
  • new and existing vehicle programs. Detailed cost analysis to include but not limited to: material, labor,
  • overhead, equipment, tooling and compare to purchased options. Thorough studies required for not
  • only the in-house processes, but purchased prices must be estimated and verified for
  • competitiveness with Rivian Purchasing or select sources.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in identifying and manage all strategic make buy studies
  • Identify innovative technologies, suppliers, assess interna capabilities, and create studies in
  • partnership with Rivian stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain unique understanding of supply base, market conditions, and technology
  • roadmaps.
  • Maintain and emulate a first principles data driven mentality in order to arrive at a decision that
  • makes sense for Rivian as a whole, and not oriented towards empire building within ME
  • verticals
  • Support in timely and efficient study execution, and life cycle sustaining of new factories and
  • equipment projects with manufacturing engineering partners and key cross-functional teams:
  • Drive cost and commercial value decisions with detailed data and specific content based
  • analysis.
  • Manage supplier and tiered supplier quotes using first principles approach and key
  • performance metrics.
  • Work closely alongside Vehicle Line, Product Development, and ME Verticals (or Horizontals)
  • to support program requirements, ensure adherence to build performance milestones and
  • track progress.
  • Communicate directly with senior leadership team on key strategic supplier and technology
  • based decisions
  • Create should-cost models to that are accepted by all parties and eliminate ambiguity and
  • controversy.
  • Drive commercial and business decisions with leadership, including establishing technology
  • and product roadmaps with a keen eye towards profitability
  • Expand and support planning of Rivian’s global manufacturing footprint.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and/or Advanced degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance or Business.
  • 10-12 years of internal/external commodity processing an pricing
  • Managed similar studies in an Automotive, Electronics or a similar high-volume manufacturing
  • business.
  • Strong understanding of the technology and supplier landscape in automotive manufacturing
  • and industrialization.
  • Analytical skills, technical literacy, and attention to detail required to solve complex cross-
  • functional issues.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills, high level of integrity and emotional IQ.
  • Experience working and managing projects globally, and flexibility to travel.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages a bonus

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Illinois/MI Based Applicants: $161,000 - $201,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
