The Role

As the Content Consumer Insights team, we work closely with business partners to inspire creative decision-making by providing rich insights into genres, content opportunities, audiences, and evolving content tastes. We strive to understand the underlying needs, motivations, and emotions that drive love for our TV shows and movies so we can help Netflix continue to create stories that will excite members around the world.

As a Senior Researcher on this team, you will lead innovative audience and content research with impact on a global scale.  This role will focus on helping to guide our content strategy at a holistic level, including things like audience and programming strategies, scheduling & release cadence, our positioning in the competitive landscape, and more.  This role will require big picture thinking, strong cross-functional partnerships, and is an exciting opportunity to deliver an impact on Netflix's content strategy.

What you will do:

  • Identify and prioritize high-impact research initiatives to help answer the company’s biggest strategic content questions

  • Design, execute, and socialize a range of studies across audience & content topics (e.g., generational viewing patterns, need states, content preferences, white spaces, etc.)

  • Leverage existing data sets to conduct deep-dive analyses, integrate information (e.g., combining survey & behavioral data in partnership with data scientists), surface new patterns & insights, and connect findings to inform a broad set of business decisions

  • Identify forward-looking opportunities and spearhead creative research initiatives to address those needs proactively

  • Set and maintain methodological and reporting best practices for audience deep dive research across the Content CI team

  • Serve as a partner and trusted consultant to cross-functional teams and other Consumer Insights researchers in areas including Content, Finance & Strategy, Scheduling, Marketing, and Product

  • Partner with Consumer Insights teammates around the world to connect dots across our insights

  • Socialize your research and findings throughout the company, making your insights memorable and actionable

About You

  • Extensive primary qual & quant research experience (~7+ years designing and executing research end-to-end) including survey design, moderation, analysis, reporting, and socialization

  • Entertainment research experience required (e.g. TV, film, streaming, short form, gaming)

  • Strategic thinker that likes taking the initiative and approaches problem-solving with an innovative mindset; you focus on long-term solutions and making an impact at scale

  • An analytical mindset; you love digging into data for hidden connections and patterns and know how to balance analytical rigor with pragmatism and actionability

  • A phenomenal communicator; strong storytelling skills with experience turning data into actionable insights and socializing across different departments (from content/creative to fellow researchers to high-level executive)

  • An excellent collaborator; able to build strong relationships both within your team and with business partners

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and thinking through multiple perspectives; stays grounded in the face of change

  • A master of prioritization and time management - both the big picture and in terms of your own time

  • A passionate fan of entertainment!

Experience with the following is a bonus, but not required:

  • International research

  • Advanced degree in research, social sciences, statistics, or related field
