Job Description

The Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure, Core at Google will work on the Core team, building the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. Responsibilities include writing and testing code, participating in design reviews, reviewing code from other developers, contributing to documentation, and triaging/resolving product or system issues. This role requires 5+ years of software development experience, 3+ years in large-scale infrastructure, and 3+ years testing/maintaining/launching software. The ideal candidate will have experience with distributed systems, compute technologies, and software design and architecture. They will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, and design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions. The Core team builds central solutions, breaks down technical barriers, and strengthens existing systems, impacting important technical decisions across Google.

Must have:

5+ years software development experience
3+ years large-scale infrastructure experience
3+ years testing/maintaining/launching software
Software design and architecture experience
Experience with distributed systems
Code writing, testing, and review
Debugging and issue resolution

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS or related field
Technical leadership experience
Experience with accessible technologies

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
3 years of experience developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
Experience developing accessible technologies.

Responsibilities

Write and test product or system development code.
Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
