The Sports Local Sales Manager in Tampa, FL will collaborate with the local sales team to connect local businesses with customers through multi-platform advertising solutions. Responsibilities include accomplishing station objectives, negotiating ratings, developing new business, assisting account executives, developing knowledge of local sports landscapes, training the local sales team, maintaining client relationships, forecasting revenue, and managing expenses. This role requires strong coaching and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details

Ready to join the exciting world of sports media sales? Scripps Sports in Tampa, FL is seeking a talented Sales Manager to collaborate with our local sales team. In this role, you'll help local businesses grow by connecting them with customers through compelling multi-platform advertising solutions involving our sports assets. You'll work across platforms including OTT video, social media, digital display, email targeting, broadcast television and sports sponsorships. Scripps offers a hybrid work option for this position.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Collaborate with Senior Director of Sales and other sales managers to accomplish station objectives regarding Scripps Sports team sales and sponsorships
  • Help negotiate ratings, rates and budgets for sports with local station leadership
  • Develop new business utilizing and maximizing all station platforms including broadcast, digital, mobile, and sponsorships
  • Assist Account Executives on key client sales calls for sports sponsorships
  • Develop working knowledge of local sports landscapes and leagues
  • Collaborate with the Director of Sales and Sales Managers to train, develop and motivate the local sales team to achieve revenue goals for sports budgets
  • Maintain positive working relationships with outside vendors
  • Interface with traffic systems and personnel to ensure efficient management of airtime inventory
  • Know the strengths and weaknesses of competing stations and other advertising mediums to position the station accordingly
  • Effectively forecast sports sales revenue and manage department expenses to achieve financial goals
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, including entertaining prospective and existing clients and attending sporting events
  • Collaborate with Scripps Senior Director Sports Revenue to support the local station

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience
  • Generally 8+ years of experience in related field preferred
  • Prior managerial experience preferred
  • Experience in Sports Business Sales on League, Team, or Media side with a proven track record exceeding revenue goals

  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of Google Office (Sheets, Docs, Slides) and virtual conferencing platforms
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Driving required. Valid Driver's License, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • May require some travel
