Job Description

This Staff Software Engineer role at Google's Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team focuses on developing and maintaining firmware for embedded systems, particularly SoCs. Responsibilities include providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, managing project timelines, and designing, developing, testing, and deploying large-scale software solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in firmware development, deep understanding of SoC architecture, and a strong track record in software design and architecture. The role involves working on critical projects impacting Google's services and requires strong collaboration across teams.
Must have:
  • 8+ years software development experience
  • 5+ years embedded OS experience
  • 5+ years software product testing & launch
  • 3+ years software design & architecture
  • Technical leadership & project management
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in related field
  • 8+ years data structures/algorithms experience
  • 3+ years technical leadership role
  • 3+ years cross-functional project experience
  • Extensive firmware development experience for SoCs
  • Deep understanding of SoC architecture

Job Details

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Extensive experience in firmware development for embedded systems, ideally SoCs.
  • Deep understanding of SoC architecture and hardware/software interactions.

The ML, Systems, & Cloud AI (MSCA) organization at Google designs, implements, and manages the hardware, software, machine learning, and systems infrastructure for all Google services (Search, YouTube, etc.) and Google Cloud.
