Established in 2023, the ByteDance Doubao (Seed) Team is dedicated to building industry-leading AI foundation models. We aim to do world-leading research and foster both technological and social progress.
With a long-term vision and a strong commitment to the AI field, the Team conducts research in a range of areas including natural language processing (NLP), computer vision (CV), and speech recognition and generation. It has labs and researcher roles in China, Singapore, and the US.
Leveraging substantial data and computing resources and through continued investment in these domains, our team has built a proprietary general-purpose model with multimodal capabilities. In the Chinese market, Doubao models power over 50 ByteDance apps and business lines, including Doubao, Coze, and Dreamina, and was launched to external enterprise clients through Volcano Engine. The Doubao app is the most used AIGC app in China.

Team Introduction
Our team's mission is to empower content understanding and creation using CV/NLP related technologies. We focus on cutting-edge R&D in areas like multi-modal understanding, vision and language, foundation models, audio/music understanding and generation with an emphasis on content creation. The team is a mix of experienced research scientists and research engineers, aiming to push the research boundaries in multi-modality and applying our research results to improve the experience of ByteDance users.
We are looking for talented individuals to join us for a Student Researcher opportunity in 2024. The Student Researcher position provides unique opportunities that go beyond the constraints of our standard internship program, allowing for flexibility in duration, time commitment, and location of work.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct cutting-edge research and development in computer vision and natural language processing, especially in the areas of multi-modality, vision and language, etc.
- Publish our latest research results, and help to build our brand in the research community.
- Transfer our research results to product applications, and explore new product ideas with CV/NLP at its core.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Research experience in multi-modal understanding, vision and language, such as video captioning, VQA, Text-to-video retrieval, audio/music understanding and generation, and other related topics.
- Publications in top-tier venues, such as CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, EMNLP, ACL, COLING, etc.
- Highly competent in algorithms and programming; Strong coding skills in Python and popular deep learning frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduating December 2024 onwards with intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship.
- Work and collaborate well with team members.
- Ability to work independently; Strong communication skills.

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description Intern (hourly)The hourly rate range for this position in the selected city is $57- $57. We cover 100% premium coverage for Full-Time intern medical insurance after 90 days from the date of hire. Medical coverage only, no dental or vision coverage.
Our time off and leave plans are: Paid holidays and paid sick leave. The sick leave entitlement is based on the time you join.
