Job Description

RaceRocks seeks a Technical Product Owner to join its Research and Development team. Responsibilities include leveraging analytical skills to translate business needs into actionable requirements within an Agile framework. The role involves crafting and prioritizing epics and user stories, leading sprint activities, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and designing conceptual models. The ideal candidate possesses 5-7+ years of experience in technical product ownership or business systems analysis, particularly within large-scale projects and learning management systems (LMS). Strong communication, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills are essential. The role requires stakeholder engagement, understanding industry regulations and translating those into development requirements, and ensuring projects deliver maximum value.

You’re a strategic thinker with a proven track record as a technical product owner or business systems analyst, especially in large-scale, complex projects. Your deep understanding of Agile methodologies allows you to seamlessly navigate and contribute to fast-paced development cycles. Your hands-on experience with learning management systems equips you with a fresh perspective for our R&D team. 


Exceptional communication skills are your forte, enabling you to convey complex ideas with clarity. You’re a natural leader who excels in mentoring teams and fostering collaboration. With an entrepreneurial mindset, you approach challenges with creativity and resourcefulness, taking ownership of initiatives and driving them to successful completion.


Responsibilities:

  • Learning Management: Bring your experience in learning management systems to the table, helping to optimize and innovate our approach to training modernization in the defence sector
  • Analytical Expertise: Leverage your strong analytical skills to dissect complex business needs and translate them into actionable requirements.
  • Agile Experience: Work within Agile frameworks, leading and contributing to sprints, ensuring that projects stay on track and deliver value.
  • Epic Writing & Refinement: Craft large feature set epics and skillfully refine them into concise, actionable user stories.
  • Prioritization Skills: Skilled at prioritizing user stories that have been broken down from larger epics, ensuring highest business value and most critical tasks are addressed and delivered first
  • Team Collaboration: Lead and participate in user story grooming sessions, ensuring that the team is aligned and ready to execute with precision.
  • Leadership: Exhibit strong leadership skills, guiding cross-functional teams towards achieving common goals.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: We value a startup mentality—someone who is proactive, resourceful, and always looking for ways to innovate and improve.
  • Ownership: Take charge of your work, drive initiatives to completion, and consistently deliver high-quality results.
  • Conceptual Modeling: Design and develop conceptual models that align with long range goals and support the immediate requirements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct and lead internal and external interviews with stakeholders and end users to gather insights, validate requirements, and ensure solution definitions will meet user needs



Qualifications 

  • 5-7+ years of proven experience in technical product ownership or business systems analysis with a focus on large-scale, complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and working experience in an Agile environment.
  • Experience with learning management systems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret published standards (e.g., industry regulations, technical specifications, compliance frameworks) and translate them into clear, actionable development requirements and QA validation criteria
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Experience in startup environments or similar fast-paced, dynamic cultures.
  • A track record of taking ownership and driving initiatives from concept to completion.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field.

RaceRocks is a remote-first company with team members across Canada, with an office for optional use in Victoria. Team members are required to be available for team building and collaboration during core operating hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Pacific Time. Outside of core working hours, we offer flexibility to support work-life balance. Although our HQ is in Victoria, BC we are open to hiring candidates from nearly anywhere in Canada. At this time, we do not have the infrastructure to support hiring candidates from Quebec or to hire/support working internationally.
