About the job

Welcome to Lightspeed LA (Irvine), the first U.S.-based, AAA game development studio for Tencent Games, where we are focused on building open-world games that emphasize an ambitious living world, sophisticated player-driven gameplay, and mature, thoughtful storytelling!

Why join Lightspeed LA (Irvine)?

Creation is the soul of our studio. For us, it’s not only about the exciting, new AAA open world game we’re developing, but also about team values and studio culture. We foster an open and transparent environment where everyone feels comfortable providing constructive feedback about all aspects of our games.

  • We encourage the showing of work that’s still in progress
  • We don’t attack or question unfinished work, we celebrate its promise
  • We have a No Blame Culture where we blame the problem, not the person

This is a safe place to fail, and we don't view failure as a negative, but as the natural result of pushing boundaries and exploring new ideas.

We create together. We face challenges together. Most importantly, we succeed together.

We are seeking a highly skilled Assistant Cinematics Editor to join our team. As an Assistant Cinematics Editor, you will be responsible for helping create and maintain cinematic sequences for video games. You will work closely with the Lead Cinematic Editor to bring the game's narrative and story to life through visually stunning and engaging cinematics.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize, convert, sync, log, trim, assemble, and otherwise prep storyboards, ref cam footage and final animation for editors.
  • Prepare sequences for review.
  • Conform edits for internal layout, animation, lighting and audio departments, and for vendors.
  • Maintain and export EDLs.
  • Update cuts with layout, animation, lighting and audio mixes.
  • Maintain and manage media storage.
  • Recognize, troubleshoot and solve technical problems independently.
  • Ensure that cinematics are delivered on time and meet the technical requirements of the game engine.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop ideas for new cinematics that will enhance the overall narrative and gameplay experience.
  • Help create cinematics that are high quality and meet the creative vision of the project.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Audio and Art, to ensure that all aspects of the cinematics are cohesive and complement each other.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in film production, animation, or related field.
  • 2 - 3 years of assistant editing experience at a games, film or animation studio in a similar role.
  • Strong Proficiency in Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Unreal Experience a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of codecs, image types, file formats, resolutions and frame rates.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge and interest in current trends in video and post-production technology.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Passion for video games and a deep understanding of their storytelling techniques and conventions

If you are a talented and experienced Assistant Cinematics Editor with a passion for video games and storytelling, and have experience assistant editing, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
