Control Systems Specialist, Local

Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid working)

Rolls-Royce is looking for a Control Systems Specialist to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on flagship Rolls-Royce programs and play a vital role in solving some of the most complex and interesting technological challenges in the industry while being part of a global, multi-disciplinary team.

As a Control Systems Specialist, you will provide technical leadership for the control systems team. You will be responsible for leading technical and planning activities while providing direction to a team of engineers to ensure technical outcomes are delivered to appropriate standards and quality while engaging with a global engineering community to identify areas for collaboration and knowledge exchange. You will support full life cycle development, lead, and mentor other engineers on processes, tools, and technical solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to travel up to 20% between Rolls-Royce sites and up to 10% other travel.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead and collaborate with teams and internal/external customers to develop electrical, electronics and mechatronics control system requirements, design and verification work products for safety critical applications as per ARP4754A and appropriate guidance within DO-178C
  • Lead and direct a cross-functional team to establish the highest standards of technical capability, quality, professionalism, and teamwork
  • Lead, review, and approve engineering and process guidance, training and documentation
  • Review and approve engineering work products for technical documentation, quality, completeness
  • Lead a team of engineers to solve complex problems through the application of acquired technical experience and knowledge
  • Develop and communicate complex technical ideas and information in a concise and logical way

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering with 5+ years of product development engineering experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering with 3+ years of product development engineering experience, OR
  • PhD in degree in in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with requirements management
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Requirements:

  • 7+ years of product development engineering experience
  • Demonstrated application of agile development methods to deliver engineering work products
  • Demonstrated experience with military qualification and FAA certification of airborne systems
  • Demonstrated gas turbine engine, propulsion, or electrical control system experience
  • Demonstrated experience with complex control system design and analysis tools Demonstrated experience developing model-based systems with digital engineering toolsets (MATLAB, Simulink and/or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering, and robust design tools and techniques coupled with the latest model-centric development approaches
  • Demonstrated  experience with Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw) or similar SysML modelling software
