Job Description
The Data Center Facilities Technician, Electrical, is responsible for operating, monitoring, and supporting physical facilities conditions within Google's data centers. This involves maintaining heating/cooling systems, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution, and control/monitoring systems. Daily tasks include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing various data center systems, assisting senior technicians, reading blueprints/schematics, conducting system tours, and assessing working order. The role requires managing data center uptime, responding to abnormal conditions, supporting new equipment integration, and ensuring environmental/safety standards are met. The technician will contribute to cost reduction and efficiency improvements while addressing performance issues and outages to minimize recovery time.
Must have:
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience
- 2 years of electrical experience
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Data center systems knowledge
- Troubleshooting skills
- Safety awareness
Good to have:
- Data center, hospital, or power plant experience
- Experience with UPS, generators, switchgear
- Knowledge of electrical systems in data centers
- Ability to develop switching procedures and RAMS

Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of electrical experience (e.g., electrical testing equipment or electrical distribution) in an industrial or commercial environment.
- Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment, the required use of safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses in accordance with safety and ergonomic guidelines and assessments.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and work rotations/shifts.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
- Experience in electrical maintenance in critical large scale facilities (Data Center, Pharma, Medical or Electrical) including UPS, generators, LV/MV switchgear Strong electrical safety awareness and ability to develop switching procedures and RAMS.
- Knowledge of electrical systems used in a data center environment (e.g., Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units).
- Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting utilizing standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.

Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. You provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

Responsibilities

- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
- Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new electrical equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.
