Lead Python Engineer at N-iX will architect and implement cutting-edge data solutions for a global tax services firm. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining data pipelines using Python (FastAPI, Azure, SQLAlchemy, gRPC), designing data models (star/snowflake schema), leveraging Azure/AWS cloud services (Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Redshift, Glue etc.), integrating disparate data sources, ensuring data quality, and collaborating with data scientists and stakeholders. Strong experience with Big Data solutions and a deep understanding of software engineering best practices are essential. The role requires building scalable, robust data applications within a cloud environment, utilizing container services like AKS, EKS, ECS, and Container Apps.
Must have:

We're looking for a Lead Python engineer to loin our team!

Our client - a global tax services, software, and technology firm - is the largest company in the world dedicated exclusively to business taxes. With global headquarters in Dallas, Texas, the firm provides an integrated suite of federal, state, local, and international tax services on a multijurisdictional basis, including tax recovery, consulting, advocacy, compliance, and technology services.

The Lead Python engineer should have proficiency in data solutioning, architecture, and implementation. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data lakehouse and data warehouse design, data modeling, and building efficient, scalable data pipelines and data software applications. For this role, strong Python expertise and an understanding of software engineering best practices are required. A strong understanding of cloud-based solutions, particularly within Azure or AWS, and experience in AI/ML projects is strongly preferred. The candidate will work with a team to architect and implement cutting-edge data solutions to support document intelligence, business intelligence, machine learning, and analytics initiatives. They will play a key role in guiding the team to implement scalable data solutions, ensuring data quality, and driving best practices across the enterprise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use Python programming language and tools to develop, test, and maintain data pipelines within the Platform Reference Architecture.
  • Data Apps Development: Have a solid understanding of software best practices for flexible, extensible microservice application architectures that reside in an overall dynamic distributed system. Understand how to implement resilient, robust production-grade code that runs in a cloud environment in container services like AKS, EKS, ECS, Container Apps in Azure and/or AWS, and interfaces with other cloud and application services.
  • Data Modeling & Governance: Develop, implement, and maintain high-quality data models (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema) optimized for performance, accessibility, and reporting. Use modern tooling like Erwin and/or DBT for design and implementation, respectively. Help to enable best practices for data quality, consistency, and governance across the organization.
  • Cloud Data Services Expertise: Leverage Azure cloud data services like Azure Document Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Lake to design, build, and deploy data solutions. Maintain and enhance AWS data services like Redshift, DMS, and Glue.
  • Data Integration: Integrate disparate data sources, including APIs, databases, cloud-based storage, and third-party data services like CData Sync, Fivetran, Lakeflow, and others, to build a holistic and unified data ecosystem.
  • Collaboration & Documentation: Collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of robust data solutions. Document processes, pipelines, and models thoroughly to ensure knowledge sharing and reproducibility.
  • Data Quality: Implement data quality checks and monitoring processes to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across all systems. Use tools like DBT to maintain data quality.
  • Work directly with management, product teams, and practice personnel to understand their platform data requirements
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that encourages productive interactions with customers, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Collaborating on an Agile team to design, develop, test, implement, and support highly scalable data solutions
  • Analyzing user feedback and activity and iterate to improve the services and user experience
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • At least 6+ years of experience as a Python developer (using FastAPI, Azure, SQLAlchemy, gRPC)
  • Proven expertise with Big Data solutions (Redshift, Databricks, ADF, Synapse, Data Lake, Glue) is desirable
  • Experience using Azure and/or AWS clouds
  • Extensive theoretical knowledge of software engineering
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to grow skills and capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills
