Job Description

Scout Motors is seeking a Manager, Seats and Restraints to lead the design and release of all seating and restraint systems for new electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs. This role involves overseeing the entire product development lifecycle from concept to manufacturing launch, ensuring innovative, optimized, and compliant designs. The manager will build and coach a diverse team, establish simulation environments, create prototypes, and ensure adherence to safety regulations. The position requires strong technical expertise in interior and seating systems, a Bachelor's degree in engineering, and over 10 years of relevant automotive experience, including design, testing, and launch phases.
Must have:
  • Design and release all restraints, steering wheel, front and rear seats.
  • Cover product development from clean sheet through launch.
  • Be the vision of engineering excellence for seating and restraints.
  • Design and engineer innovative and optimized products.
  • Build and coach a diverse team for innovation and efficiency.
  • Collaborate to create a simulation environment for body systems.
  • Create prototypes for virtual and physical verification testing.
  • Deliver designs conforming to safety standards and US regulations.
  • Proactively monitor consumer experience and propose improvements.
  • Input into production facilities design for body systems.
  • Manage resources efficiently (infrastructure, financial, people).
  • Be a key decision maker within technical leadership team.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Design and release responsibility for all restraints, steering wheel, front and rear seats. for all new products. You will cover from clean sheet of paper through virtual development, testing/sign-off and manufacturing launch.
  • Be the vision of engineering excellence & source of knowledge for seating and restraints areas of expertise.
  • A critical focus will be on design and engineering products that are innovative and optimized. Bring your creativity and passion to make exciting products. Invent and protect our intellectual property.
  • Build and coach a diverse team; create a working environment that is fertile for innovation and efficient in operation.
  • Design and create with collaboration a simulation environment that allows the new body systems concepts and ideas to be put to test for vehicle handling, safety features and overall drive experience.
  • Create prototypes for virtual and physical verification testing, including field testing.
  • Deliver designs to conform to safety standards and US government regulations.
  • Proactively keep close to “pulse” of the consumer experience and propose system improvements.
  • Input into the design of production facilities for body systems of the Scout Motors trucks & SUVs.
  • Manage resources efficiently including infrastructure, financial, supplier partners and people.
  • Be a key member and decision maker within the technical leadership team and liaison will all Scout Motors functions.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan.
  • The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Interior and seating technical skills/expertise with a 1st principles approach to problem solving.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or relevant engineering field.
  • Master’s degree in engineering, systems engineering, engineering management or MBA a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in body structures and relevant automotive assignments. Including all three phases of product development (design, test and launch)
  • Computer aided engineering (CAE) awareness and/or direct experience.
  • An ability to build strong working relationships with people across all organizational levels

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $140,000.00 - $170,000.00
