Job Description

As a Power Hardware Engineer on the Pixel charging team, you'll design, optimize, and integrate fast and safe charging experiences into Pixel phones and wearables. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams (EE, PD, SW, Validation) to integrate battery charging hardware. Responsibilities include developing next-generation charging architectures, topologies, and communication protocols, exploring advancements in magnetic attachment and faster wireless charging technologies, and contributing to the evolution of global wireless charging standards through active participation in the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). You will also define and develop detailed circuit/analytic models for optimizing charging efficiency and create hardware power testing plans. This role requires expertise in power conversion design for consumer electronics, wireless charging design, and electromagnetic modeling.

Job Details

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in power conversion design for consumer electronics applications (e.g., battery charging, USB-PD adapter, wireless charging, etc.).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in power conversion design for consumer electronics applications (e.g., battery charging, USB-PD adapter, wireless charging, etc.).
  • Experience in wireless charging design and WPC-Qi specification.
  • Understanding of system power converter modeling and simulation; electromagnetic modeling, analysis fundamentals, and simulation tools.
  • Understanding of on-board power conversion design for consumer electronics battery charging applications.

In this role, you will join a team of power experts in the Pixel charging team, where you will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and integrating enjoyable, fast, and safe charging experiences into Pixel phones and wearables. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Electrical Engineering (EE), Power Delivery (PD), Software (SW), and Validation (Val), to seamlessly integrate battery charging hardware into Google hardware devices. Drive innovation by developing next-generation charging power architectures, topologies, and communication protocols to enhance user experiences. This includes exploring advancements in magnetic attachment, faster wireless charging technologies, coil design innovation and other cutting-edge features.

Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of global wireless charging standards. Actively participate in the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) by contributing to the development of Qi specifications and influencing the roadmap towards higher power wireless charging solutions. Your expertise will shape the future of wireless power and enable seamless, efficient charging experiences for users worldwide.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional hardware, software and systems teams to define, implement and integrate battery charging (wired/wireless) hardware solutions to meet product battery charging requirements.
  • Define and develop detailed circuit/analytic models for optimizing charging efficiency, reduce charging time and improve charging thermal performance.
  • Define, develop and optimize magnetic components for charging, for example, wireless charging coils using EM/analytic modeling and simulation tools.
  • Create hardware power testing plan, validate the charging hardware system and work with cross-functional teams for system validation in products.
  • Propose and drive implementation of innovative new power solution for charging features across hardware and software to provide better experience.
