Job Description

The Senior Backend (Data) Engineer role at Azra Games involves designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs to support data collection and analytics for a free-to-play mobile title. The engineer will own the end-to-end data pipeline from game client ingestion to data lake storage and visualization tools. Responsibilities include architecting and building robust systems for real-time and batch data processing, collaborating with various teams to understand data needs, and monitoring and ensuring the reliability and scalability of data systems across AWS and/or Google Cloud environments. The role also requires integrating and automating DevOps best practices. The engineer will play a key role in ensuring the success of the game, focusing on player engagement, retention, monetization, and game health.
Must have:
  • 4+ years of backend engineering experience focused on data engineering or systems integration
  • Strong knowledge of Golang and Python in a production environment
  • Experience working with AWS and/or Google Cloud
  • Experience creating and maintaining data pipelines and data lakes
  • Experience with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD practices and monitoring frameworks
  • A problem-solver who values simplicity, scalability, and performance.
Good to have:
  • Prior experience in the games industry or supporting analytics
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and stream processing
  • Familiarity with GDPR/CCPA compliance and player data privacy
  • Prometheus monitoring and alerting toolkit experience
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and creating systems within the AWS ecosystem
  • Proficiency with Docker and containerized service architecture.

Senior Backend (Data) Engineer

Azra Games is recapturing the childhood thrill of storytelling with your entire toy box for modern AAA gaming. We are dedicated to one genre, role-playing games, and led by veteran designer Mark Otero (Zero-to-one director of Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, EA’s most successful mobile game of all time, with $1.5B lifetime revenue). Azra has assembled an expert team with decades of experience building blockbuster games. Our debut release, Code named ‘Project:Legends’, will be Mark’s ninth RPG. And his best. Azra Games believes in harnessing the power of technology, with a focus on generative AI, to radically disrupt & transform game development.

Overview

Azra Games is looking for a Senior Backend (Data) Engineer who will play a key role in ensuring the success of our very first free-to-play mobile title. This role will work alongside Product and Analytics team to build end-to-end data pipelines to capture essential KPIs like player engagement, retention, monetization, and game health.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs to support data collection and analytics.
  • Own the end-to-end data pipeline — from game client ingestion to data lake storage and visualization tools.
  • Architect and build robust systems for real-time and batch data processing.
  • Collaborate with game teams, product managers, and analysts to understand data needs and deliver reliable infrastructure.
  • Monitor, debug, and ensure reliability and scalability of data systems across AWS and/or Google Cloud environments.
  • Integrate and automate DevOps best practices for deployment, observability, and alerting

Requirements

  • 4+ years of backend engineering experience with a focus on data engineering or systems integration.
  • Strong knowledge of Golang and Python in a production environment.
  • Experience working with AWS (e.g., S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena, Lambda) and/or Google Cloud (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Dataflow, GCS).
  • Proven experience creating and maintaining data pipelines, data lakes, and integrating visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Metabase, Grafana, or similar).
  • Comfort working with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD[?] practices and monitoring frameworks (e.g., Prometheus, CloudWatch, Stackdriver).
  • A problem-solver who values simplicity, scalability, and performance in architecture.

Pluses

  • Prior experience in the games industry or supporting analytics for live-service products.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, stream processing (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis), or data warehouse modeling.
  • Familiarity with GDPR/CCPA compliance and player data privacy best practices.
  • Prometheus monitoring and alerting toolkit experience a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and creating systems within the AWS ecosystem.
  • Proficiency with Docker and containerized service architecture.

Base Salary Range: $130,000 - $190,000. The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
