WEWS, The E.W. Scripps Company ABC affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio, is looking for an Evening Meteorologist. The Evening Meteorologist will analyze meteorological data from satellites and radar to prepare accurate forecasts. They will deliver weather updates, present weathercasts across multiple platforms, and assist with new weather technology evaluation. The role also involves writing, producing weather content, and reporting from weather events. The Evening Meteorologist must have computer literacy, broadcast camera equipment knowledge, strong writing skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in meteorology or equivalent experience.

  • Deliver weather updates during severe weather events.
  • Present weathercast materials across TV, radio, and digital platforms.
  • Experience with video editing systems and broadcast camera equipment.

WEWS, The E.W. Scripps Company ABC affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio, is searching for an Evening Meteorologist to join our weather team. In this key role, you'll analyze meteorological data gathered by satellites and radar to prepare accurate and engaging forecasts for Northeast Ohio viewers. As part of News 5 Cleveland, you'll deliver critical weather information that helps our community prepare for everything from sunny skies to severe storms.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Prepare and deliver daily weathercasts utilizing all available weather data and graphics computers.

  • Deliver urgent weather updates interrupting regular programming as necessary during severe weather events.

  • Present weathercast materials across multiple platforms including TV, radio, and digital channels.

  • Assist management in evaluating potential new weather data gathering and presentation technologies.

  • Report live from weather event sites or mobile broadcast units.

  • Write and produce quality weather stories for multiple media platforms.

  • Report, write, capture visual content, edit, and produce weather-related content on deadline.

  • Work cooperatively with photographers assigned to stories.

  • Gather and verify factual information through interviews, observation, and research.

  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in meteorology preferred or equivalent years of experience

  • Generally 5+ years of meteorology experience preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Computer literacy including proficiency with weather and newsroom computer systems

  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment

  • Experience with video editing systems

  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills

  • Proficiency in posting content to various websites

  • Self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Driving required. Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits
