Team Summary: Within Nintendo of America (NOA)’s Legal department, the Litigation Team manages claims and lawsuits by or against Nintendo entities, including claims of products liability, intellectual property infringement, or breach of contract. The team also reviews and monitors policies to ensure Nintendo's products and actions comply with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and requirements. The team works with NCL and NOA during product development to promote safety and manage risk. The department's mission is to be a key member of the global business team that strategically shapes business opportunities and manages risk while driving customer satisfaction. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Analyze complex technology issues and related patents.

  • Manage outside counsel in all facets of complex litigation, with an emphasis on IP litigation.

  • Negotiate and resolve patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret non-litigation disputes.

  • Draft and negotiate license agreements or other high-risk settlement agreements.

  • Work closely with engineering departments and parent company on product technology issues that may impact claims or litigation.

  • Respond to legal inquiries from Nintendo Company, Ltd. (NCL), and Nintendo of America Inc. (NOA) personnel.

  • Work closely with team to respond to third-party inquiries and subpoenas.

  • Communicate with and direct outside contacts, including outside counsel and consultants, on intellectual property matters.

  • Provide legal advice to company departments, subsidiaries, and affiliates.

  • Conduct in-house training seminars.

  • Maintain knowledge of current legal issues.

SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least six (6) years of experience as a practicing intellectual property litigator in a law firm or in-house legal department

  • Working knowledge of intellectual property laws with a focus on patent law.

  • Excellent drafting and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated track record of outstanding achievement and accomplishment.

  • Must be willing to travel and work extended hours when necessary.

  • Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job family or field.

  • Law degree.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering or related field; computer industry experience desirable. Registered Patent Attorney with the USPTO is a plus.

  • Membership in the Washington State Bar Association or other comparable state qualification.

This position is HYBRID in Redmond, WA. Hybrid positions require regular onsite work following the schedule and guidelines for their division. This position is not open to fully remote status at this time. Relocation assistance may be available.

This position includes a base salary range of $164,500 - $296,000 annually, potential for a semi-annual discretionary performance bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off.
