Team Overview

This is a great opportunity to become part of PowerSchool’s Cloud Operations Application Support and deployment team. The Cloud Operations team works in a growing and fast-paced environment managing and supporting the cloud-based products and infrastructure for the nation's leading education technology platform for K-12. The Cloud Operations team manages and administers all facets of cloud hosted environments from hardware to software, operating systems to PowerSchool’s products. Cloud Operations manages applications utilized by over 10 million students in a 24 x 7 x 365 environment. The Cloud Operations team atmosphere is collaborative, adaptable and team based to meet the needs of an evolving technology and business model. Some travel is required.

Responsibilities

A Cloud Operations engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and optimizing cloud infrastructure and services. They ensure the availability, performance, and security of cloud-based applications and resources while monitoring and responding to incidents and issues. This role requires expertise in cloud platforms, automation, and best practices.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Must be willing and able to work shift rotation schedule including night and weekend shifts.

  • Problem solving skills and ability to Troubleshoot and resolve application, instance, and/or system tickets.
  • Ability to learn new technology in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong verbal and written skills to interact with internal customers and partners via phone, chat and email.
  • Ultra-reliable, highly motivated, self-starter, who can collaborate within Cloud Operations and across other functional groups.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following .

  • Execute ticket triage, investigation and resolution of reported incidents.
  • Troubleshoot application issues and engage Customer Support as needed to identify and resolve the issue
  • Troubleshoots problems with user accounts and application access
  • Perform daily system administration tasks to verify that all systems are up and running
  • Installation and configuration of highly available cloud-based software and customer environments
  • Monitor and troubleshoot application, infrastructure issues to ensure high availability, optimal performance and system responsiveness
  • Complete periodic application software and infrastructure updates and software version upgrades
  • Support product development teams in the delivery of continuous integration, continuous deployment, providing templates and patterns to follow to ensure code produced by product development teams can be deployed and scaled on standardized technologies and platforms
  • Performs basic database monitoring and troubleshooting of database performance issues
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance, when necessary, respond to emergencies, participate in customer calls when called upon in support of initiatives and incident response
  • Able to communicate effectively and work as a team member to manage all cloud-based systems used within the environment
  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications include:

  • 2-3 years’ experience supporting cloud-based products.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent degree required
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix - Mandatory
  • Experience with database technologies (ANSI SQL/MYSQL/MS SQL)
  • Willing to work in 24x7 shifts (Night shift is core mandatory)
  • Willing to work on Saturday and Sundays.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in server administration and cloud deployment of both Windows and Linux
  • Knowledge of Relational and No-SQL databases (demonstrable proficiency or professional experience preferred)
  • Knowledge in application releases and deployment
  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies
  • Ability to handle a heavy workload with multiple projects and frequent interruptions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in Incident, Problem and Change managements.
  • Experience in managing and resolving applications/infrastructure monitoring alerts using tools such as New Relic, PagerDuty, etc.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to Troubleshoot and resolve application, instance, and/or system tickets.
  • Knowledge of PowerSchool is a plus



Technical Experience Required:

  • 2 - 3 years of experience as an application support engineer in a cloud-hosted environment
  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies (Azure, AWS).
  • Managing service requests based on priority and track requests to completion with quality and in a timely manner.
  • Having worked on ticketing tools like Salesforce, Jira, etc., used to track and manage service requests



Good To Have Skills (not Mandatory)

  • Experience in RPA development or Power Automate is a plus.
  • Proficiency in essential programming languages, with the ability to script and code using modern



languages.

  • Knowledge of database technologies (MYSQL, MS SQL, and Oracle) a plus.
  • AWS / Azure certification
