Job Description

As a Senior Backend Engineer at idealo, you will be a key part of the Clickout-to-Revenue team, responsible for the core monetization of idealo. You will develop and operate business and web applications in the AWS Cloud, taking end-to-end responsibility for the entire value chain from architecture to maintenance. Your role involves integrating new affiliate platforms, ensuring reliable clickout tracking, and building systems for precise performance analysis to drive data-driven decisions. You will work in an agile team, contributing to process improvements and maintaining high code quality.
Must have:
  • Develop and operate business and web applications in the AWS Cloud.
  • Responsible for the entire value chain (YBYO): architecture, infrastructure, development, testing, security, deployment, monitoring, on-call, and maintenance.
  • Work on integrating new affiliate platforms to ensure reliable and automated clickout tracking.
  • Expand and build systems for enriching and validating tracking data for precise performance analysis.
  • Work in an agile product team with short release cycles and close collaboration with Product Lead, accounting, and other stakeholders.
  • Pair Programming, Pull-Requests, Code-Reviews, and regular feedback are standard practice.
  • Actively contribute ideas for process improvement, value high code quality, and continuously develop yourself.

  • Experience in integrating affiliate services (e.g., AWIN)
  • Background in the eCommerce environment
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Grafana/Loki, OpenSearch)

As part of our Clickout-to-Revenue team, you are jointly responsible for the core of idealo – our monetization. We cooperate with approximately 50,000 e-commerce shops in Europe, from small specialized shops to large marketplaces like Amazon and eBay. Idealo's price comparison gives our retail partners access to millions of users who can find the best price for their desired product from over 560 million offers on idealo.de alone.

Idealo is specifically driving the expansion of strategic partnerships and continuously gaining new specialized shops via affiliate platforms. Our focus is on the technical integration of these platforms as well as the reliable synchronization and enrichment of the provided data. Our goal is to precisely and transparently evaluate the performance of our affiliate campaigns. Based on this, we develop targeted measures to further improve the visibility and success of our partner offers on idealo.

Your Tasks

End-to-End Responsibility

  • You develop and operate business and web applications in the AWS Cloud.
  • Together with your team, you are responsible for the entire value chain (YBYO): architecture, infrastructure, development, testing, security, deployment, monitoring, on-call, and maintenance.

Product Focus: Developing Scalable Affiliate Tracking

  • You work on integrating new affiliate platforms – with the goal of ensuring reliable and automated clickout tracking.
  • You expand and build systems for enriching and validating tracking data to enable precise performance analysis – our basis for data-driven decisions in the affiliate business.

Agile Collaboration

  • You work in an agile product team with short release cycles and close cooperation with Product Lead, accounting, and other stakeholders.
  • Pair programming, pull requests, code reviews, and regular feedback are a matter of course for you.

Technical Excellence

  • You actively contribute ideas for process improvement, value high code quality, and continuously develop yourself – We support you with various training opportunities.

What You Bring

Must-haves

  • 7+ years of experience in web application development, thereof at least 5 years with Kotlin/Java.
  • Very good knowledge of AWS architecture and Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform.
  • Experience in container orchestration with Kubernetes.
  • Experience in developing Lambda functions for, among other things, data processing (Python, TypeScript).
  • Profound knowledge in relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and document-oriented databases (MongoDB, DocumentDB).
  • You develop according to Clean Code and SOLID principles.
  • You think in end-to-end responsibility and can clearly communicate technical concepts – also to non-technicians.
  • You enjoy working in a team, sharing your knowledge, giving constructive feedback, and actively participating in pair programming, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Good German and English language skills.
