Sr. Research Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Product Management 

BUSINESS UNIT: Corporate

REPORTS TO: VP, Product Management

DIRECT REPORTS: No

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Sr Research Engineer plays an important role in research projects in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Optimization and various mathematical algorithms to solve supply chain problems. Sr Research engineer also develops mathematical models and prototypes to confirm the value and potential business value quantification.

RESPONSIBILITES:

• Responsible for defining and prototyping mathematical, optimization, machine learning models for select supply chain problems.
• Define and develop data mining techniques, and building proof of concepts.
• Study and keep current on supply chain, mathematical and industrial research related to supply chain and identify areas for research evaluations reflecting customer and industry trends to influence strategic direction of the product.
• Demonstrate thought leadership with key strategic customers and demo proof of concepts to validate business impact.
• Help Product Managers with analysis of functionality requirements and suggest mathematical models to represent them. Design and develop new algorithms for the products.
• Write product specifications for development team for incorporating algorithms and mathematical models into products for general availability.
• Other tasks and activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• M.S./Ph.D. degree in a mathematical/statistical, computer science, and/or operations research.
• Solid optimization (e.g., linear programming), machine learning, mathematical and statistical foundation.
• Must have 2+ years working experience in computer programing and AI/ML.
• Must have database and current technology expertise.
• Proven problem-solving, critical thinking, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Post-doctoral experience, University Professorship in Mathematics or related discipline, Supply chain research is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• General office environment and responsibilities requiring:
• Extensive use of the computer which involves viewing a monitor and keyboarding for most of the workday.
• Placing and receiving phone calls
• May require travel as needed.
