Senior Software Engineer, Linux Kernel Upstream

We are looking for a Sr. Linux Kernel Software Engineer:

The upstream Linux switch kernel switch/router infrastructure team is in charge of developing the cutting edge of modern networking switch/router kernel models. It enables software support for networking offloads and networking operation systems (NOS) directly offloading the Linux kernel networking related behavior.

NVIDIA is hiring a senior Linux Kernel Software Engineer to work in the Networking business unit, Linux switch kernel team. You will have very strong C knowledge, Python and Bash background and solid understanding of Linux kernel drivers development and upstreaming process with emphasis on knowledge of networking hardware.

The team is working directly with the netdev Linux Kernel community and maintaining the "mlxsw" upstream driver for NVIDIA's Spectrum ASICs and also seeking to enable the newest switch/router networking trends and latest networking performance optimizations in NVIDIA. The "mlxsw" driver is in charge of providing offload capability for the NVIDIA switch/router ASIC families.

What you’ll be doing:

• Define, implement and upstream kernel and user APIs

• Design and develop upstream low level switch/router networking infrastructure

• Provide solutions to model complex networking offloads and hardware control logic to work seamlessly with the rest of the ASIC networking pipeline

• Enhance software requirements and influence the hardware design of future networking ASICs

• Drive to closure complex technical issues that will occur in cross-team boundary

What we need to see:

• BS/MS with 5+ years of experience, with strong programming skills in C and background in Python and Bash programming.

• Understanding and preferably experience with open-source model of work, ideally Linux kernel in particular.

• Knowledge of mid layer networking protocols, roughly L2 and L3 in terms of ISO/OSI. Ethernet, IP, IPv6, bridging, routing, VXLAN.

• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

• Self-motivated, with strong verbal and written communication skills

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

• Experience in analyzing and solving complicated multi layer embedded platform issues.

• Experience in networking offload engines

• Experience with BPF programming and usage
