Job Description

Develop and maintain tools and workflows for in-game cinematics, providing powerful graphical tools to streamline workflows and ensure data integrity. Support internal and external teams, including animation teams and cinematic designers. Collaborate with multiple customer groups to deliver solutions meeting their needs. Requires 5+ years of Python experience, deep Maya knowledge (animation and cinematics), and experience with runtime cinematic systems. Strong UI development, version control, and data format familiarity are essential. The role is fully remote, initially a 12-month contract with potential extension. Experience with PyQt/PySide and C++ is preferred.

Our Mission

Radical Forge is a Middlesbrough, UK-based developer that has provided co-development services on a range of AAA and indie titles. In 2021, the company created its first original IP, 'Brightpaw', which Rogue Games published on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One/Series S/X, Google, and iOS. The studio is currently working on the much-anticipated silly, physics-based, sandbox farming game, 'Southfield'.

Since its beginnings in 2017, the company has grown to over 60 incredibly talented, collaborative, and creative individuals. We are the sum of our skills, passion, and, most of all, our people. Your Mission

  • Develop tools and workflows that streamline development of in game cinematics.
  • Provide users with powerful graphical tools that simplify workflow and ensure data integrity.
  • Provide support to a wide range of users including, but not limited to internal and external animation teams and cinematic designers.
  • Work directly with multiple customer groups to provide solutions that meet their needs.

Ideal Applicant

  • 5+ years of experience using Python professionally.
  • Deep technical knowledge of Maya, especially in the areas of animation and cinematics.
  • Experience developing and supporting runtime cinematic systems in production.
  • Experience streamlining workflows, providing support, and maintaining tools in production.
  • Familiarity with rigging.
  • Experience developing UIs
  • Experience with version control and SCM systems (Git, Perforce, Mercurial, etc.)
  • Familiarity with common data formats: JSON/ XML/etc.
  • Motivated to work collaboratively with technical and creative team members spread across several continents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be self-sufficient and have strong time management skills.
  • Experience building PyQt or PySide applications.
  • Experience working with or developing micro-services.
  • Experience with C++ strongly preferred.
  • Provide users with powerful graphical tools that integrate data from multiple sources and provide transparency, clarity, and consistency across platforms.
  • Work directly with multiple customer groups to provide solutions that meet their needs.

  • This role is fully remote.
  • We will require all applicants to live in the UK, and have a pre-existing right to work in the UK.
  • The role will initially be a 12 month contract with the potential to extend after this.

About The Company

A northern game studio founded in 2017 by Technical Artist Bruce Slater and Unity Engineer Freddie Babord.

Radical Forge was set up to be a safe haven for game developers to grow creatively, be treated with respect, and have transparency in leadership. Our studio values are why we’ve been able to grow the studio to over 70 employees who work in our Middlesbrough office and remotely.

We work to a AAA standard and have worked for hire on some of the most well-known games in the world such as Sea of Thieves, Minecraft Dungeons, Zombie Army 4, and Rust: Console Edition.

We’re not only a co-development studio, we also create our own original IPs. In 2020, we released the cat detective puzzle game Bright Paw, which was published by Rogue Games.

We’re now working on our largest project to date, our own unannounced IP which has been funded by the Private Division Development Fund.
