The Senior Transportation Subject Matter Expert role involves optimizing DoD transportation capabilities within the Joint Logistics Enterprise. The role involves developing and executing policies, ensuring efficient deployment and distribution of vital resources, and shaping the future of DoD logistics. The candidate will provide expert knowledge of surface transportation and traffic management, policy, and operations. They will also support DoD-level policy development, execution, and oversight and develop and perform logistics management operations involving transportation planning, coordination, and evaluation. The candidate will identify specific requirements for transportation assets and movement throughout the logistics enterprise, correlating these requirements with program plans to ensure the needed support is provided at the right time and place.
Must have:
  • Expert knowledge of surface transportation and traffic management.
  • Experience in seaport operations.
  • Experience in transportation engineering.
  • Experience in defense transportation system.
  • Experience in deployment and distribution.
  • Experience in transportation of arms, ammunition, and explosives.
  • Experience in transportation information technology (IT) systems.
  • Experience in customs procedures.
  • Experience in sea, rail, and truck operations.
  • Experience in in-transit visibility.
  • Active Top Secret Clearance is required.
  • Master’s in Business Administration or a Master's degree in logistics management OR twenty (20) years or more of relevant experience.
Good to have:
  • Experience with specific DoD transportation systems and procedures.
  • Experience working directly with senior DoD leadership.
  • Expertise in budget development and execution for transportation programs.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
  • Familiarity with relevant acquisition processes.

About the Role Redhorse Corporation is seeking a highly experienced Senior Transportation Subject Matter Expert to join our team supporting the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment (ASD(S)) and the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Logistics (ODASD(Log)). This critical role directly impacts warfighting readiness and lethality by optimizing DoD transportation capabilities within the Joint Logistics Enterprise. You will contribute to developing and executing policies, ensuring efficient deployment and distribution of vital resources, and shaping the future of DoD logistics. This position is based at Mark Center and the Pentagon in Northern Virginia, with potential travel up to 10%.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert knowledge of surface transportation and traffic management, policy, and operations, with relevant experience in the following transportation support elements:
  • Seaport operations
  • Transportation engineering
  • Defense transportation system
  • Deployment and distribution
  • Transportation of arms, ammunition, and explosives
  • Transportation information technology (IT) systems
  • Customs procedures
  • Sea, rail, and truck operations
  • In-transit visibility
  • Support DoD-level policy development, execution, and oversight, providing strategic, business, program management, and execution knowledge to senior leaders. Ensure Service-owned transportation capabilities, U.S. Transportation Command managed assets, and civilian transportation capabilities are appropriately utilized to meet deployment and distribution requirements.
  • Develop and perform logistics management operations involving transportation planning, coordination, and evaluation.
  • Identify specific requirements for transportation assets and movement throughout the logistics enterprise, correlating these requirements with program plans to ensure the needed support is provided at the right time and place.
  • Communicate key findings and recommendations effectively to senior leadership.

Required Experience/Clearance
  • Active Top Secret Clearance is required.
  • More than ten (10) years of relevant experience in the primary duties and responsibilities listed above.
  • Master’s in Business Administration or a Master's degree in logistics management OR twenty (20) years or more of relevant experience.

Desired Experience
  • Experience with specific DoD transportation systems and procedures.
  • Experience working directly with senior DoD leadership.
  • Expertise in budget development and execution for transportation programs.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
  • Familiarity with relevant acquisition processes.
