Job Description

The Codebase team at ByteDance builds infrastructures, platforms, and technologies, supporting all ByteDance developers. As a Software Engineer, you'll construct a code hosting platform, maintain code storage services, and design and execute a large-scale distributed Git system. You'll continuously optimize underlying components to improve infrastructure maintainability and automation, ensuring high business availability. You'll have a unique opportunity to see firsthand the company's strategy in code hosting, code review, and code analysis, and be a part of a team developing new solutions to novel challenges.

Must have:

B.S. or higher in Computer Science
3+ years of development experience
Proficient in C/C++/Go/Java
Strong system design and development experience
Experience in problem analysis

Good to have:

Familiarity with Github, Gitlab, Gerrit, Bitbucket
Knowledge of Git protocol source code
Experience with distributed storage system implementation
Experience with code hosting-related platforms

About the Team The Codebase team at ByteDance is missioned to build infrastructures, platforms and technologies, as well as to support all of the developers in ByteDance. In this team you'll have a unique opportunity to have first-hand exposure to the strategy of the company in code hosting, code review, code analysis, especially in building scalable and reliable systems and solutions. Our challenges are not your regular day-to-day technical problems - you'll be part of a team that's developing new solutions to new challenges of a kind not previously addressed by big tech. As a Software Engineer in Codebase team, you will be: - Responsible for the construction of a code hosting platform, providing developers with high-quality and stable code hosting and R&D collaboration services. - Responsible for the maintenance of code storage services, and completing the architectural design and technical attack of a large-scale distributed Git system. - Continuous tuning of the underlying basic components, to improve the maintainability and automation of the infrastructure, to ensure high availability of business.

Qualifications

- B.S. or higher degrees in Computer-related majors. A minimum of 3 years or more development experience, good design and coding skills. - Familiar with Linux system and common Linux commands, proficient in any one of the languages C/C++/Go/Java. - Solid basic skills in computing, storage, networking, and other computer systems, with experience in large-scale system development and design. - Strong experience and ability in system problem analysis, optimistic and passionate about solving challenging problems. - Familiarity with code hosting-related platforms, such as Github, Gitlab, Gerrit, Bitbucket, etc., is preferred. - Familiar with the internal data structure of Git, having some knowledge of Git protocol source code, and having relevant work experience are preferred. - Familiar with distributed systems, having a good understanding of distributed storage system implementation principles, and having relevant work experience is preferred. 【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $145000 - $250000 annually.​
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.​
