Job Description

As a 2D Artist at Maliyo, you'll be responsible for creating high-quality visual assets for our mobile games. You'll work closely with the team to bring our African-inspired concepts to life through mood boards, sketches, and detailed 2D art. Your expertise in 2D editing tools and understanding of game art principles will be crucial in delivering stunning visuals that capture the essence of our games. You'll also be involved in ensuring consistency between the artistic vision and the final implementation of assets in the game.

Must have:

Experience in 2D art and creating game-resolution assets
Strong knowledge of 2D editing tools (Photoshop, Painter, Sketchbook Pro)
Familiarity with 3D tools (Maya, 3D Max, Modo, ZBrush)
Advanced understanding of texture painting, material setup, modeling, UV painting
Strong skills in 2D art conception, design, and production
Critical and artistic eye, knowledge of form, line, and lighting
Ability to adapt art styles for the target audience
Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and time management skills
Proactive and enthusiastic approach to work
Attention to detail, prioritizing, meeting deadlines
Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Flexibility and ability to work with cross-functional teams

Maliyo infuses the continent’s lively culture and experiences into everything we create. Our goal is to embed Africa’s vibrant culture into video games through storylines, character development, immersive environments, captivating sounds, and strong visuals.

Essential Functions:

Collaborate effectively with team members to offer visual solutions for our game titles.
Create mood boards and digital sketches to quickly communicate artistic concepts with the team.
Create high-quality 2D assets to meet the visual identity of the company.
Create environments and hard surface assets for use in high-quality games.
Work with the production team to ensure consistency between vision and implementation of assets in the game.
Ensure all aspects of art production are completed in a timely manner and to a high standard.
Understand and follow direction provided by the creative lead.
Work within the production schedule, manage files, and meet deadlines.
Research and analyze other games and styles.
Use the latest tools and techniques to create stunning game art.

Requirements

Experience in visual arts, especially in 2D art and creating high-quality and game-resolution assets.
Strong knowledge of 2D editing tools such as Photoshop, Painter, Sketchbook Pro, etc.
Familiarity with 3D tools like Maya, 3D Max, Modo, ZBrush, etc., to deliver high-quality assets.
Advanced understanding of texture painting, material setup, low and high-poly modeling, UV painting, and topology.
Strong skills in conception, design, and production of 2D art.
A critical and artistic eye, knowledge of form, line, and lighting.
Ability to work in multiple varied art styles and adapt styles for the target audience.
Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and time management skills.
Personal commitment to improving your knowledge and skills with a proactive and enthusiastic approach to work.
Work requires continued attention to detail in establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously within a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to work with cross-functional teams in-person and remotely.
