PopCap Games seeks a skilled 3D Lead to contribute to the next Plants vs. Zombies mobile title. This role involves establishing visual benchmarks, overseeing high-quality 3D asset creation in a 2.5D style, reviewing in-game implementation, bridging 2D and 3D workflows, improving pipelines, problem-solving performance issues, collaborating with engineering, and contributing to a positive team culture. Responsibilities include creating concepts, mentoring artists, and optimizing assets for visual quality and performance. The ideal candidate possesses 5+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in mobile game development with live service experience. Proficiency in Maya or 3D Max, experience with 3D pipeline creation and documentation, and excellent communication skills are essential.

We are looking for a 3D Lead to join us and help continue delivering a long-running and beloved IP to our players, Plants vs. Zombies! This artist will report to the Art Director and work on an upcoming Plants vs. Zombies mobile title. You will rapidly develop concepts to drive the creation of best-in-class visuals, bringing the world of Plants vs. Zombies to life. You have experience in art creation and leadership for mobile games with an eye for industry trends.

3D Lead Artist

Responsibilities

  • Establish and evangelize visual and technical benchmarks

  • Oversee high-quality 3D asset creation in a 2.5D “Saturday morning cartoon” style (character, environments, and props)

  • Review asset implementation in-game for quality and performance

  • Act as the bridge between 2D and 3D, providing feedback to 2D leads to refine assets for hand-off (optimizing textures for performance and visual quality, etc)

  • Investigate, vet, and supplement documentation of existing internal & external 3d pipeline

  • Propose and assist in improvements to current internal & external 3D processes and pipelines

  • Problem solve to mitigate bugs and performance issues

  • Work with both internal and external engineering to build tools to support the 3d pipeline and optimize performance

  • Contribute to PopCap’s Art team culture of learning and accountability

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in similar positions (Senior 3D artist), preferably on a mobile game supporting live service

  • Demonstrated experience creating 3D character art (props or environment are a plus but not required) in Maya or 3D max, including custom tools

  • Experience with 3D pipeline creation and/or improvement and documentation

  • Experience giving feedback to internal/external artists and mentoring (though not managing) a team of mixed experience levels and skill

  • Experience implementing 3D assets in Unity

  • Great interpersonal communication skills with an ability to successfully collaborate with multiple departments (design, eng, production)
