Halo Studios seeks a Character Artist to create high-quality characters, armor, aliens, and creatures for their AAA games. Responsibilities include modeling and texturing using industry-standard tools, collaborating with various teams (Art Directors, Technical Artists, Animators, Game Designers), and adapting to changing requirements. The role requires a strong foundation in anatomy and mechanical principles, creative vision, and expertise in next-generation asset creation pipelines. The position is hybrid, allowing for up to two days of remote work per week.
Must have:
  • Create top-quality character models and textures
  • Collaborate with Art Directors and other teams
  • 2+ years experience in character art for games or film
  • Proficiency in Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter, or equivalents
  • Understanding of next-gen asset creation pipelines

Halo Studios is building the future of the blockbuster Halo series of video games with Unreal Engine. As part of Xbox Game Studios, the Halo franchise encompasses games, novels, comics, licensed collectibles, apparel, and more with a shared vision of heroism, mystery, and wonder. With multiple projects in development, join our team as we forge the next generation of games and experiences in our award-winning sci-fi universe. 

 

This role will specialize in creating exceptional quality Characters, Armors, Aliens and Creatures. Candidates should have experience working with modeling and texturing tools to create AAA art. This candidate is expected to be extremely collaborative with Character Artists, Art Directors, Technical Artist, Animators and Game Designers. This candidate must be highly effective and positive in ambiguous situations, able to self-motivate to high performance, manage your time effectively and react quickly to changing requirements. Roles at our studio are flexible, and you can work from home up to two days a week in this role.

Qualifications

Qualifications 

 

Required/Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree or Certificate in Design, Fine Arts, Human Computer Interaction, Visual Communications or related art field AND 2+ years experience in art design or a related art field working on computer games or entertainment

    o OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years in character art creation in game or film.

 

 

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

 

Preferred qualifications: 

 

  • Solid foundation in human anatomy and mechanical principles. 
  • Creative vision to take a character to completion from either a detailed or simple concept image 
  • Understanding of next generation asset creation pipelines and tools 
  • Knowledge of Maya or any core 3d modeling package 
  • Knowledge of Zbrush or equivalent sculpting program 
  • Knowledge of Substance Painter or any core texture painting package. 
  • Eye for light, shade, color, and detail in creating texture maps 

 

Art IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
