The Role

At Netflix, our product and technology teams help discover and integrate new technologies that elevate creator engagement to help them produce stunning content that entertains the world. As a member of the Product & Tech Legal group, you will support the Content Operations & Innovations team  in Netflix’s VFX, post and virtual production operations, and their research & development efforts in creative technologies.

This is a legal generalist role with a business instinct that requires the ability to deliver proactive, flexible counseling and the ability to manage diverse responsibilities in a fast-moving VFX and post-production environment. This is a demanding position that requires someone who can influence without direct authority, make quick decisions, provide strong communication, be motivated to drive meaningful change, and can drive all this successfully because of their important mix of courage, judgment, curiosity and great instinct for responsible innovation. The role will report directly to the Senior Director of Studio Product & Technology Legal, working with a global team but based in Los Angeles with in-person expectations at our Scanline/Eyeline studios in Hollywood.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactive and trusted partnering with our VFX and virtual production teams.

  • “On-the-set” legal support, called upon to make the right judgment calls that mitigate risks while meeting tight production deadlines.

  • Practical legal counseling to support our motivated innovations teams exploring emerging technologies and techniques that improve content creation and creative iteration, media pipelines and workflows, and enhance our VFX and virtual production services.

  • Counseling on VFX capacity deals and services agreements, SaaS/software engagements and hardware purchasing, working in partnership with our contracts managers.

  • Serving as a throughline for relevant business units and the broader legal team, keeping everyone informed and connected, and coordinating closely with subject matter legal experts as necessary.

Key Qualifications:

  • You have a JD and an active bar membership in good standing, with 5+ years of legal experience either through a law firm and/or an in-house role working directly in the entertainment and/or technology industries with preferred experience in production and/or legal affairs and a focus on current and emerging creative technologies.

  • Clear communication skills with the passion and courage to collaborate and share information and ideas, and bridge business units so they have clear sightlines.

  • The ability to quickly discern practical real-world risks from theoretical ones, with the wisdom to thrive in a loosely coupled world where we lean into integrity and judgment over rigid rules and inflexible processes.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range.
