Job Description

The Data Center Designer role at Google involves designing and implementing cutting-edge data center systems. Responsibilities include ensuring designs meet requirements (cooling, structural, operational), leading investigations into flexible building layouts, defining and maintaining critical data center architecture, and driving solutions with partners. The role requires expertise in modular data center design, collaboration with external consultants, and understanding of civil construction. The designer will enable new infrastructure and IT technology insertion, improving development and deployment velocity. This position requires strong technical skills, collaboration abilities and the ability to influence senior-level executives.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering or CS
5+ years Data Center Systems Engineering experience
Experience coordinating with design consultants
4+ years designing modular Data Center interfaces
Ensure designs meet requirements
Lead investigations and innovations in flexible building layouts

Good to have:

Master's or PhD in relevant engineering
10+ years data center design experience
Experience reading civil drawings and flagging coordination items
Knowledge of civil construction methodologies

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience in the design of Data Center Systems Engineering, system architecture, design and integration.
5 years of experience coordinating work with outside design consultants on new Data Center designs from layout construction documents.
4 years of experience with designing reconfigurable modular interfaces for Data Centers.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
10 years of experience in data center design, development and construction.
Experience in reading civil drawings produced by vendors and flagging coordination items that deviate from a standard civil configuration (e.g., skeleton model).
Knowledge of civil construction methodologies and timelines, and ability to provide impact assessments based on deviations.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $139,000-$207,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

Ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns, etc.).
Lead investigations and innovations in flexible building layouts that balance minimizing day one impact, while maximizing scalability in incremental phases and efficiency of overall space utilization for master planning.
Define, implement, and maintain critical data center system architecture and interfaces within product areas to enable modular introduction and incremental phasing of new technologies into the data center fleet.
Drive development of solutions with partners and play a key role in driving, influencing, and evolving the strategy to adapt to a modular, multidisciplinary product development approach.
