About This Role
We are looking for an experienced Hardware / Electromechanical engineer to join our Team based in Burgess Hill. In this role you will support the training and simulation business, providing the UK MOD with advanced training solutions that enable our soldiers to achieve their mission.
The role will lead and deliver hardware technical activities of large-scale programs by applying mature engineering knowledge and techniques. Including, design, development and management of the hardware engineering solution as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Design and Development:
Design and develop hardware components and systems for defence simulation applications.
Generate and maintain hardware requirements for prospective systems.
Create detailed schematics and packaged designs.
Select and evaluate appropriate hardware components and materials.
Evaluating Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of prospective designs.
Generations of Bill of Materials (BOM), Certificate of Design (CoD) and other associated descriptors of designed system.
In close collaboration with Systems Engineers/Architects, develops overall system design, technical directives, and programming standards for assigned projects.
Testing and Validation:
Develop and execute test plans to validate hardware functionality and performance.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues.
Conduct environmental and stress testing to ensure reliability and durability under various conditions.
Capture evidence required for conformity and acceptance against the hardware requirement.
Integration and Support:
Integrate hardware components into SAP facility.
Provide technical support and guidance during system integration and deployment.
Assist in the development of user manuals and in service support documentation.
Compliance and Standards:
Demonstrate compliance with CAE processes, procedures and documentation standards.
Ensure that CAE products conform to all applicable product safety legislation and standards and be the signatory on Product Declaration of Conformity.
Ensure Health, Safety & Environment compliance in personal operating practices.
Project Management:
Participate in project planning and progress reviews.
Provide accurate time and cost estimates for hardware development tasks.
Maintain project documentation and track progress against milestones.
Resolves technical problems escalated from team members.
Identify and manage risks associated with area of responsibility in the project.
Essential:
Experience delivering programs through the engineering lifecycle.
Experience of following engineering governance (SOR, PDR, CDR…).
Experience delivering the technical element of projects or programs.
Experience in estimating time to completion against scope and managing scoping through project execution.
Experience of hardware requirements generation and management.
Excellent planning, organisational and coordination skills.
You must be able to obtain or transfer SC clearance (will require 5 years of UK residency).
Some activities will require travel in the UK and abroad and require occasional overtime on weekend working.
Desirable:
Bachelor or Master Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent preferred.
Exposure across multiple engineering disciplines and business functions
Experience in training and simulation.
Experience working in defence and security.
Tools such as AutoCAD, DOORS, Creo, Solidworks
Exposure to Lean development methodologies.
