Job Description

Gunzilla Games seeks a Lead Materials Artist to lead their Materials team on Off The Grid, a AAA Battle Royale game. Responsibilities include leading and mentoring the team, managing tasks in Jira, improving material creation pipelines, collaborating with designers, and optimizing content. The ideal candidate has lead experience on at least one shipped AAA title, multiple AAA development cycles, a strong understanding of PBR workflows, and proficiency in software like Zbrush, Substance Designer, and Substance Painter. They will work alongside Art Directors and Art pipeline supervisors to maintain and push visual quality while meeting production needs.

Founded in 2020, Gunzilla Games is the independent AAA video game developer and publisher behind the free-to-play mobile game TECHNOCORE, the gamer-first blockchain GUNZ, and the upcoming next-gen battle royale Off The Grid, in three metropolitan locations: Frankfurt, Germany (HQ); Kyiv, Ukraine; and London, UK. ABOUT THE JOB

Gunzilla Games is looking to recruit a Lead Materials Artist to lead our Materials team working on our game OTG (Off The Grid), an all-new AAA Battle Royale 2.0 third-person shooter, available as Early Access on PlayStation®5, Xbox® Series X|S and PC now.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Lead Materials Artist you will:

  • To work alongside Art Directors and Art pipeline supervisor to Lead, motivate and inspire our Materials team, to maintain and push the visual quality while delivering within the production needs.
  • Manage the team, including setting objectives, and quality expectations and providing visual benchmarks
  • Coach, mentor and develop the team to ensure the personal growth of individuals as well as the whole team
  • Oversee and improve studio material creation pipelines including exploration of new techniques and technologies
  • Track and assign tasks in Jira and other project-tracking software.
  • Work to highlight and mitigate any issues that may cause bottlenecks
  • Work actively with designers and other departments to achieve the best look for the game.
  • Share knowledge and work on improving project tools and their functions

REQUIREMENTS

You will have:

  • Experience as a lead on at least one shipped AAA title
  • Career experience which includes multiple AAA development cycles.
  • A tech-minded approach, and a strong capacity to tweak and optimize content in all parts of the Materials creation pipeline and library.
  • Experience in long planning and possible production problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Zbrush, Substance Designer, and Substance Painter.
  • Strong knowledge of PBR workflows and an understanding of how materials behave in the real world.
  • Experience in creating realistic, game-ready textures using complex shaders
  • Strong understanding of working with Open IO/Aces post-processing systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with technical team members
