GOLF+ seeks a Lead Unity Architect to lead the architectural design and implementation of scalable, performant, and maintainable systems in Unity. Responsibilities include establishing best practices and coding standards, providing technical leadership through code reviews and architectural discussions, evaluating and integrating new technologies, collaborating with cross-functional teams, optimizing rendering and gameplay systems for immersive VR experiences, troubleshooting performance issues, ensuring seamless integration with backend services, building prototypes, and working with QA on automated testing. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience building scalable systems in Unity using C#, a deep understanding of performance optimization techniques, and strong experience with multiplayer architectures and real-time networking solutions. The role requires leadership skills to build and mentor a team of 4-5 engineers.

About the role
GOLF+ has given people a new way to connect and play the game of golf, and we’re just getting started. We’re working hard to add new courses, new game modes, and new social features to make connecting with other players much more fun and rewarding. We are looking for a Senior Unity Architect who is passionate about our mission and capable of designing scalable, performant, and maintainable systems. Every year we take our whole team somewhere special. In 2023 we traveled to the Dominican Republic and played Teeth of the Dog golf course!

What you will achieve

    • Lead the architectural design and implementation of scalable, performant, and maintainable systems in Unity.
    • Establish best practices and coding standards to ensure code quality and maintainability across the engineering team.
    • Provide technical leadership by conducting code reviews and driving architectural discussions.
    • Evaluate and integrate new technologies, frameworks, and tools to enhance the development pipeline.
    • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and gameplay engineers to develop robust solutions that align with the product vision.
    • Optimize rendering, physics, and gameplay systems to deliver smooth and immersive VR experiences.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance and stability issues across platforms.
    • Ensure seamless integration between client-side systems and backend services.
    • Build prototypes to test new concepts and gameplay ideas quickly.
    • Work closely with QA to establish automated testing workflows and tools to improve reliability.

Skills you'll need to bring

    • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to build and lead a team of 4-5 engineers. Experience mentoring team members, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a collaborative development environment.
    • Expert Unity Development Experience: Extensive experience building scalable systems in Unity using C#. You have shipped multiple titles and understand the complexities of optimizing applications.
    • Architectural Expertise: Proven experience designing and implementing architectural patterns and systems that scale to support a growing player base and evolving game requirements.
    • Performance Optimization: Deep knowledge of Unity profiling tools, memory management, rendering pipelines, and performance optimization techniques.
    • Networking and Multiplayer Systems: Strong understanding of multiplayer architectures and real-time networking solutions.
    • Data Structures and Algorithms Expertise: Proficiency in data structures and algorithms to optimize code for performance, maintainability, and reliability.
    • Technical Versatility: Comfort with learning new tools and technologies to address challenges as they arise.
    • Collaboration and Communication: Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
