The Manager, DPU Software will lead a team developing services for various teams within Microsoft's Data Processing Unit (DPU). This role requires strong planning, technical, and interpersonal skills. Responsibilities include leading the core DPU software development team in India, removing roadblocks, setting aggressive deadlines, managing high-performing teams, and anticipating/mitigating issues. Excellent communication is crucial for conveying team plans, expectations, and performance metrics. The position involves close collaboration with teams in India and beyond, ensuring alignment on goals and project timelines. The manager will provide direction, set priorities, allocate resources, and support the well-being of team members.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
  • 6+ years technical experience (C, C++, Python, JavaScript)
  • 4+ years people management experience
  • 4+ years in embedded systems

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. The Data Processing Unit (DPU) team brings together state-of-the-art software and hardware expertise to create a highly programmable and high-performance ASIC with the capability to efficiently handle large data streams. Thanks to its integrated design, this solution empowers teams to operate with increased agility and deliver significantly superior performance compared to CPU-based alternatives. 

As a manager for the Data Processing Unit (DPU) Software group, you will be leading a team that provides services to multiple other teams within our organization. Your role will require you to leverage your strong planning, technical, and inter-group relationship management skills. You will be responsible for leading the core DPU software development team members based in India, empowering them to do their best work by removing roadblocks and creating clarity wherever possible. Your ability to set and meet aggressive deadlines, manage and develop high performing teams, and anticipate and proactively mitigate potential issues will be key to your success. Your excellent communication skills will be essential in effectively communicating your team’s plans, expectations, and performance metrics across all levels of the organization. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 6 years technical experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Python, and JavaScript 
  • 4+ years of people management experience 
  • 4+ years as a developer or manager in an embedded systems environment 

 

Preferred 

  • 6+ years of people management experience 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to effectively communicate team’s plans & expectations across the organization 
  • Experience with silicon tape-out and system bring-up 

 

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure seamless collaboration between team members in India and their counterparts within DPU and beyond. This includes facilitating regular communication, aligning on goals, and ensuring that everyone is on the same page regarding project objectives and timelines. 
  • Provide clear direction and priorities to the team, helping to remove any obstacles that may impede progress. This includes setting clear expectations, providing the necessary resources, and ensuring that the team has a strong understanding of their roles and responsibilities. 
  • Actively monitor and support the wellbeing of team members. This involves creating an environment where team members feel valued and supported, addressing any issues that may arise, and promoting a healthy work-life balance.
