The Payroll Specialist will work on-site in the Sonic Shared Service Center and will be responsible for processing weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for Sonic Automotive and Echo Park teammates. The specialist will ensure accurate and timely payments, manage deductions, and conform to tax regulations. They will also audit workflows, review Paid Time Off balances, upload payroll data, respond to inquiries, prepare manual payments, and assist the payroll management team. Candidates should have 3 years of experience in multi-state payroll processing and must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a Shared Services environment.
Must have:
  • 3 years of payroll experience in multi-state processing.

  • Excellent communication skills.
Good to have:
  • Experience with UKG Pro.
  • FPC or CPP certification.
  • Experience with large volume payrolls.

Job Summary

The Payroll Specialist will work onsite in the Sonic Shared Service Center and will be responsible for daily operational task relating to the processing of weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for Sonic Automotive and Echo Park teammates. This position may also be responsible for project work as deemed appropriate by the Payroll Management Team. 

Essential Functions-    

Ensure accurate and timely payment of teammate payroll payments. Managing deductions and conforming to tax regulations.

Audit workflows for new hires, transfers, rehires, terminations, leave of absence for completeness.  Notify the Associate Resource Center of any discrepancies that need to be corrected.

Review final Paid Time Off balances and process accordingly

Review and upload payroll data received from the dealerships.

 Respond timely to inquires from management, Associate Resource Centers, dealership partners, 3rd party partners, and teammates when appropriate.

Prepare and process manual payments based upon policy and procedures.   This includes calculating gross to net and determining correct taxation.

Assist payroll management team and team members as appropriate to ensure timely and accurate processing of teammate payments.

Actively participate in special projects as assigned by management.         

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 


This position requires a minimum of 3 years payroll experience in multi-state payroll processing, high school diploma or equivalent. UKG Pro experience a plus. Preference will be given to candidates with  FPC or CPP.  Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.  Candidates must have excellent communication skills.  Must have the ability to work in a Shared Services environment.


Desired Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years experience in multi-state payroll processing. Candidates should have experience with large volume payrolls consisting of 3,000 associates or more.  Working knowledge of involuntary deductions (i.e. garnishments, child support orders, tax levies) is desired.  Candidates should have thorough knowledge of all payroll and payroll tax related rules and regulations and have strong knowledge of "best-in- industry" practices.  This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates must be detail oriented, results oriented, and have an ability to think strategically.
