Job Description

Tesla's traction inverter team seeks a skilled electrical engineering student intern to contribute to next-generation power electronics designs. Responsibilities include designing and building custom PCBA and electrical testing tools, characterizing power semiconductors and converters through hands-on experiments, and collaborating with other engineering teams (mechanical, PCB layout, firmware) to design, validate, and manufacture traction inverters. The internship offers valuable technical and professional growth within a dynamic work environment.

Must have:

BS in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
Familiarity with electrical test equipment
Programming skills (C or MATLAB)
PCB design software experience
Hands-on experience with power electronics

Good to have:

High-voltage power electronics experience
Analog/digital circuit design experience
Microprocessor programming experience

Tesla’s traction inverter team is looking for a skilled and motivated electrical engineering student to push the power electronics propelling our vehicles to the next level. The team is presently developing next generation designs and will allow the intern to grow technically and personally while experiencing life at Tesla with projects that are critical to their team’s success. It's an exciting work environment with plenty of engineering resources and bright colleagues to collaborate with.

What You’ll Do

Design and build custom PCBA, electrical tools, and scripts for testing power semiconductors and power converters
Characterize power semiconductors and power converters performance with hand-on experiments
Collaborate with mechanical, PCB layout, and firmware engineering teams to successfully design, validate and manufacture traction inverter

What You’ll Bring

BS in Electrical Engineering, currently working towards a MS, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
Familiarity with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscope, power analyzer and soldering tools
Familiarity in a programming language such as C or MATLAB
Experience with one PCB design software as part of academic project or coursework
Proven interest in electrical design engineering through extracurricular activities and projects
Genuine curiosity and willingness to understand how our products are designed, built and how they operate; detail-oriented and execution focused.

Additional Preferred Skills

Relevant hands-on hardware experience in high voltage power electronics design, simulation and testing
Good experience with designing analog/digital circuits, including PCBA schematic and layout, and micro-processors programming.
