As a Principal Engineer, Front End Development at Gemini, you will be a key technical leader influencing the technical direction of a key product surface. You'll architect, develop, and advocate cutting-edge user interfaces for Gemini's AI tools. Responsibilities include designing and developing high-performance, scalable web front-end/full-stack architectures, collaborating with product and engineering teams, optimizing performance, providing technical guidance and mentorship to a team of approximately 40 engineers, and advocating for best practices. The role requires expertise in front-end technologies (TypeScript, React, Angular), experience with large-scale projects, and a passion for AI. You'll ensure Gemini remains at the leading edge of the AI landscape.
Must have:
  • 12+ years software development experience
  • Experience managing large-scale projects
  • Expertise in front-end technologies (TypeScript, React, Angular)
  • Experience with ML and front-end domain
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Good to have:
  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science
  • Knowledge of web testing infrastructure
  • Experience with distributed systems and architecture
  • Experience with large language models

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience managing large-scale technical projects in the software engineering domain.
  • Experience in Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • 12 years of experience in software development.
  • Experience with front end technologies like TypeScript, React or Angular.
  • Knowledge of and experience with front-end, web testing infrastructure, distributed systems and architecture.
  • Knowledge of ML and front-end domain, including experience with large models (language or multi-modal).
  • Passion for AI technology and all of its possibilities.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-performance and scalable web front-end/full-stack architectures for Gemini that enable fast-paced product innovation.
  • Work closely with product managers, UX designers, and back-end engineers to ensure a seamless and beautiful product experience on Web.
  • Optimize the performance of Gemini's Web surface.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of approximately 40 front-end and application engineers.
  • Advocate and enforce front-end development best practices and code reviews, staying abreast of emerging front-end technologies and trends.
