PROCESS SAFETY ENGINEER

MANUFACTURING DEPARTMENT

 

Location:  Hammarsdale, KZN, South Africa

A Process Safety Engineer position has become available at an international chemical manufacturing company, based in Hammarsdale. 

 

The purpose of the job is to manage all process engineering, process safety management and assigned capex projects for the manufacturing facility to ensure statutory, legal and corporate compliance and ensure products are manufactured to meet corporate and customer requirements.

 

Qualifications: 

BSc Chemical Engineering

 

Experience: 

5 to 10 years process safety experience in a high paced chemical manufacturing environment, preferably in a batch processing reaction chemistry environment.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Maintaining and improve process engineering performance.
  • Effective management of capex projects.
  • Maintaining and improve process safety.
  • Developing and driving the implementation of process safety strategies and action plans addressing process safety risk and process safety management system maturity;
  • Overall implementation, monitoring, reporting, sustaining and building upon the site’s existing process safety management system (practices, metrics)
  • Implementing continuous improvement and project management initiatives.
  • Maintaining and improve SHERQ manufacturing performance. (HAZOPs, other PHAs, MOCs);
  • Supporting group level process safety initiatives.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities required

  • Must be conversant with the entire manufacturing plant structure.
  • Strong understanding of system safety and hazard identification and risk analysis process (HIRA).
  • Risk assessment skills, general problem-solving using data analytics and root cause failure analysis techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes, process safety, policies, procedures, OHS Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of DCS configuration.
  • Advanced knowledge of related chemistries and chemical manufacturing technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering and engineering design principles.
  • Advanced project management skills and portfolio management principles and have the ability to lead projects.
  • Strong leadership and management skills and abilities.
