Job Description

Cloud Imperium Games seeks a Props Artist to create a diverse range of high-quality game assets, both with and without pre-existing concepts. Responsibilities include pushing the visual and technical quality of artwork, collaborating with other departments to meet specific design and technical requirements, and creating highly detailed, functional, and beautiful assets for use by players and AI. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in hard-surface modeling, material creation, high-poly modeling, texture baking, and a fundamental understanding of soft furnishings or organic asset creation. They should be highly self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively, and thrive in a challenging and fast-paced environment. The role involves creating intricate hard-surface props (furniture, dressing assets), soft furnishings, organic assets, and complex interactable objects for their space simulation game.

Job Details

We are a crowdfunded company and have a dedicated and enthusiastic community of backers who are helping us create the “Best Damn Space Sim Ever”. We want to build the best we can deliver and we believe wholeheartedly in the value of exceptional diverse talent.

The Props team produce a variety of foreground assets for locations, features, cinematics, and marketing. Our staple is intricate hard-surface props such as furniture and dressing assets, but we also produce a variety of soft furnishings and organic assets – as well as complex interactable objects. Many of the assets we create are used by players and AI so need to be highly detailed, functional, and beautiful! 

Founded in 2012, Cloud Imperium Games creates cutting-edge videogames that defy expectations. We’re currently developing Star Citizen, a record-breaking multiplayer online space sim, and Squadron 42, a cinematic single-player adventure set in the same universe. What do our Props Artists do?   

  • Create a diverse array of high-quality props with and without concept.
  • Push the quality of artwork both visually and technically.
  • Collaborate with other departments to produce assets with specific design and technical requirements.

What would we expect from our Props Artists? 

  • Ability to produce highly detailed, well optimised hard surface models.  
  • Solid understanding of the artistic and technical fundamentals of game art production.
  • Good knowledge of material creation, high poly modelling and texture baking.  
  • Fundamental understanding of soft furnishing or organic asset creation.  
  • Work within and help to define metrics and technical setup on assets.  
  • Be highly self-motivated and show initiative, being able to rise to challenges and problem solve when required.

About The Company

Cloud Imperium Games is a new kind of independent studio dedicated to delivering AAA experiences outside the established publisher system, founded by Chris Roberts, creator of the best selling Wing Commander and Freelancer series, Cloud Imperium is currently developing Star Citizen, a record-shattering crowd funded title that combines classic space sim gameplay with Hollywood-caliber visuals.


Cloud Imperium aims to pave new ground in game development by sharing the process with the players.
