The Sales Director will be responsible for generating new business from existing key publishers and identifying new prospects in the United States. The role involves building strong relationships with top publishers, providing exceptional service, and meeting sales targets. Key responsibilities include prospecting, account management, providing solutions, resolving production issues, offering technical support, and ensuring timely delivery and quality. The Sales Director also monitors financial aspects and communicates company initiatives, requiring a thorough understanding of the publishing industry and printing solutions.
Must have:
  • Meet and exceed sales targets consistently.
  • Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of printing processes, materials and finishings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience in book industry and in particular complex children’s books.
  • Understanding of export business.
Good to have:
  • Experience in similar role within international publishing or printing company.
  • Good knowledge of production and color management.
  • Experience with technically complex bookmaking.
  • Understanding of printing operations and machinery.

Job Description:

The U.S. representative office of a major Asian printing conglomerate, Toppan Leefung, is seeking a dynamic, experienced, motivated, and results-driven Sales Director to expand market share in the U.S.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for generating new business from existing key publishers and to identify new prospects in the U.S.  He/she will work closely with our factories that specialize on all types of book production: paperbacks, hardcovers, wire-o, coffee-table books, children's books and complex pop-up books as well as box sets, catalogs, and other derivative products for prestigious publishing houses around the globe.  The mission of the Sales Director is to build strong relationships with top publishers, provide exceptional care and value-add services and to achieve and surpass sales targets.  This individual is required to have thorough understanding of publishing industry and well-equipped knowledge of the print solutions to serve as an effective liaison between our factories in Asia and our U.S. clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Prospecting and developing new relationships among key publishers in New York and major cities in the U.S.
  • Build strong connections and expand imprints and divisions at top publishers’
  • Provide proactive sales management on existing accounts and offer tailored solutions
  • Respond quickly and professionally to every publisher question and inquiry
  • Promote company branding and share new products and services on a regular and timely basis
  • Actively resolve all production-related issues and take a proactive role in preventing problems  
  • Serve as a technical consultant to publishers on new product designs and manufacturable ideas
  • Collaborate with factories to ensure on-time delivery, top notch quality and seamless communication
  • Articulate company social and environmental initiatives and accountabilities
  • Thorough knowledge of publishing industry and trends and clear understanding of new sustainability requirements from the EU and France
  • Responsible for briefing and transmission of quote requests to factories in a clear and concise manner
  • Offer technical support on complex project development
  • Monitor closely the various stages of production and have the ability to provide expert answers
  • Responsible for financial monitoring and ensuring collection of payment

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Proven success and a consistent track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets
  • Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of printing processes, materials and finishings
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field
  • Experience in book industry and in particular complex children’s books
  • Understanding of export business

Preferred Experience:

  • Similar position in an international publishing or printing company
  • Good knowledge of production and color management
  • Experience with technically complex bookmaking
  • Understanding of printing operations and machinery

We understand that your skills deserve recognition. That's why we offer a competitive base pay scale ranging from $100,000 – $125,,000 annually, based on experience and expertise. Additional pay, including performance bonuses, range up to 15% of base pay. We believe in compensating our dedicated team members fairly for their hard work and commitment. Please note that actual salaries may vary within, above, or below this range based on factors such as education, training, experience, professional achievement, business needs, and location.
